Over 35?

Personally, I don't think too much about the age thing, but is anyone interested in keeping a thread going to chat about issues specific to our age group? If anything we can commiserate over how silly the whole advanced maternal age thing is. :LOL

How about starting off by sharing stats?

Yeah, I'm trying not to think about it too much. I know I wouldn't have been ready for children before this, so it's fine. I must admit I'm a little worried about menopause and the teen years. But I'm sure we'll be fine!

Hi Lee, it's so nice to see you here!

This is an oops baby... we have always wanted 3, but we were planning to wait another year before starting to TTC. I have an u/s in ~1 1/2 wks to attempt to pin down my EDD.

I'm wondering where y'all are at with regard to prenatal testing. I did nuchal u/s and the blood screens with my previous 2, and I thought I would do just the same with this one. But now I'm finding myself wondering about amnio.

Oops! I forgot my due date!
April 10th, '06

I think that we will not do any tests, just have an u/s at 18-20 weeks. I am a worrier, and I know the false positive rate for most of those tests is very high. I don't need anyone giving me anything more to worry about!

Lee- glad to see another 40 year old! I thought I would be worried about my "advanced maternal age" but I am not at all

Hey everyone! How are you feeling?

Kristine-it's great to see you here too!!!

As far as testing goes-I don't do the AFP. I had a false positive with dd#1-that was a pointless experience. jYou're right about pointless worrying, Jenn! But I will have an amnio, simply because my husband and I want to have the information so we can be prepared if need be. I've had it done before-it's not bad.

Normee-wow, we have two big things in common! Yeah, I'll be 41 too-good to hear you feel great about it. I know I'm in much better condition now to be pregnant than I was at 21!

Hope everyone is enjoying these early stages and feels great. What gender do you think you're carrying?

Over 35 and lovin' it.

36, will be 37 by the time baby is born
Due Date: 15 April 2006 (tax day?!)
Preg #2, baby #2

Just had my first prenatal yesterday, and my CN Midwife suggested AFP, in combo with highly sensitive Ultrasound before ever considering Amnio. I was assured that these 2 tests can catch up to 90% of defects.

:-) Tracyn

PS - I was 34 when DS was born, and had only 2 u/s and no other testing, and no other problems, but I hadn't hit that magical 35+ age.

I talked this weekend with my hubby about testing. He was freaked out a bit that I wanted his opinion---tends to be the 'everything will be fine' type, I'm a worrier. I guess I'm all for being prepared if there's an issue we'd need to cope with but I haven't quite sorted out what to do yet.

P.S. with DD I slipped in under the 35 wire...I turned 35 the day she came home from the hospital!

Tracyn, that's the nuchal u/s, most likely (in combo with the blood screening, it's often called the superscreen). I had it with both of my kids. I will do this again (and finally have it covered because I hit the magical age! :LOL ). I'm considering/wondering about amnio.

I'm not getting an amnio. I am Rh- and, imo, the risk of baby's blood mixing with mine is too great and I am not getting RhoGam this time, since I plan on it being my last pg.

Hi everyone! Are anyone elses hormones bouncing off the walls? My five year old started kindergarten yesterday-I was an emotional wreck and picked a huge fight with dh. Ay yi yi! I feel like I should be quarantined this time around!

What # pregnancy this is for you: This is my 2nd pregnancy. I have a 2.5 yo dd.

I am not doing the tests becuase they freak me out. Just knowing would make my blood pressure sky high. And yes my homones are bouncing off the walls! I have the desire to tell everyone off one minute and the next minute I feel as sweet as syrup. :

Hi everyone!

Count me in as another who is 35+.

I am Angelique. This is my second pregnancy. I have a daughter who is 3.5. My due date is April 26th. I am currently 35 but I will just have turned 36 when my baby is born.

I am already getting cravings. I can't get enough V8 juice. The only other time I wanted it this bad was when I was pregnant with my DD. I almost never drink the stuff normally, lol.

As for the age thing, I am trying not to worry about it. I know I don't want an amnio, that is for sure.

welcome angelique!

after doing some research I've decided to do the nuchal, too-hopefully I'll feel comfortable enough to forego the amnio after that.

The fatigue has settled in big time here-I can walk dd to school, pick her up and that's about it!
Fatigue is also coming on here. I'm yawning all the time. But then I can't fall asleep when I finally land in bed!

I have my first OB appt on Sept 20th when I'm 10 weeks. I will see what she says about testing. Last time I just had a detailed ultra sound and I was 36 when I delivered. My sister had her 3rd when she was 40 and didn't have any testing. I am also RH neg but luckily so is my husband so we don't have to worry about that.

I've spent the past two days on the couch with spotting-I had a 9/8 appointment but am now going in on Monday. I'm trying to stay positive but it's hard feeling like the other shoe is going to drop, or whatever that saying is. There's no cramping, which makes me feel a little better, and I still have strong symptoms. Ah well-I'm staying hopeful-at this stage in our lives I don't think we would try again and it would be really wonderful if this baby was meant to be.
