should I say something on mainstream forum?

my local paper's website has a bunch of forums, including a parenting forum. Very mainstream. Well one thread brought up how women should not be pressured to breastfeed if they really don't want to. I don't believe in pressuring anyone to do anything, but I did offer a very diplomatic, "They should try it for at least a month, often early problems will resolve."

Well one lady posted, "I know my baby is getting more vitamins out of a bottle of formula than he could ever get out of me."

This totally shocked me because the opposite is true. Should I say something and risk getting flamed? Can someone give me some "hard facts" about the nutritional bnenefits of breastmilk over formula? I figure if even a couple moms read it and give it some thought, it might lead to their BFing.

TIA!

some resources that are neither pro/nor con

JUST flat out true adn correct! It is hard to argue against thses when they are not endorsed by LLL or a formaula company. Might be easier on the mainstream poster...

Or, you could do a google search. There are so many simple sources as well as LLL type articles. I guess it just depends on how gun-ho you want your post to sound.
So, bottom line, everything I gave you I simply got from google, without any slant toward either breast or bottle. No matter where you look, even a formula producing company will start their articles with "Breast feeding is best for infants..."

It's hard to argue with that!!

Here's a link to a breakdown of vitamins, minerals, etc in breastmilk and formula. It's done in table form so it's pretty easy to read. However, they call formula artificial baby milk which will probably tick some people off. Then again, anything ticks some people off it seems......

1st, I'm not flaming the person who posted this link, I just can't believe they write this stuff. Seems like more of the to not make the FF's by choice feel bad.

I'd found somethig else in the 2nd site but erased it all by accident. shoot. typing/quoting/copying 1 handed while ds goes between nursing & sleeping. I just read further down on the 2nd article & it says babies usually sleep thru the night by 3 months! Yikes! Talk about setting people up for disappointment & believing there's sometrhing wrong w/ their babe!

Back to the OT: yes, respond w/ some of this info. it may not be as completely honest as the world needs, but it's better than nothing. And even if you only reach one mama, you've done good!

I'd say something. In fact, I'd say "I'm not in favor of using negative reinforcement to get someone to do anything, and that I don't think pressuring is a good tactic. I'm more for helping women who want to do it have the support and information they need. And since you don't have the current information on the benefits of breastmilk, let me just tell you ______" and fill in the blank with all the nutrients and positive things about breastmilk.

Because you know that providing people with the correct information is some people's definition of pressuring, so I'd proactively try and nip that argument in the bud (even though I doubt it would work).
