I'm so proud of my fellow central illinoisians

I was at school (community college) today to pick up my books for my classes (online). I was in a VERY long line with my dh, and 3 kiddos. My dd is 9 months old and decided she was hungry. I would normally have tried to get her to wait, but she said momma and signed milk for the first time (we have been teaching her sign language). I was so darn proud I just whipped my boob out and nursed her right there in line for my books. I didn't get any strange looks or comments.

I was so darn proud of my fellow central illinoisians! I typically get funny looks. This time I didn't even cover with a blanket or anything. Half the people there were in the 18-25 range, and quite a few older students and parents. There were actually some little ones there with their parents, and one of the other ladies started nursing her little one, too. I am so proud!

Especially since I keep hearing about the way that some people get treated in public. Man, if my MIL or ANY of dh's family was there, they would've freaked!

Yay! Good for you, and congrats on your dd's new signing skills too!

What a great experience! Just out of curiousity what college? I am from IL and am curious.

My cousin had an opposite experience at Parkland.

Lakeland college in Mattoon. It's about an hour south of Parkland college. I used to work at Carle in Champaign. I get nasty looks all the time, but other than dh's family, nobody has ever said anything!

Ok I know right where that is. I grew up in Urbana and lived in Argenta (ever heard of it?) until I went to Kankakee to college.

Small world.

Never heard of Argenta. But, there's lots of places around here I still haven't been to!

I'm a central Illinois mama too, and I so rarely see other moms NIP. But, I do it, and can't say I've ever been harassed either.

So maybe we live in apatheticville :LOL
