K/1 SS/Science

I have considered myself unschooling, but now that I'm getting divorced and ex wants my kids in school, I'm in fast-moving CYA mode. I just bought some OM curriculum and am just starting to wade through it. DD is 5.5 and reads, writes phonetically, adds, subtracts (not on paper but does phenominally with manipulatives) and knows how to multiply. I'm not too worried about things.

But I feel we're really lacking in SS (history mostly; we do pretty well with geography) and science. I'd like to have all my bases covered when we go to court on Sept 7 to get temporary orders, and want to be able to make a very solid homeschooling case (I don't even have to file with the state this year cuz she won't be 6 until the end of October.)

Can anybody point me to some relaxed curriculums or resources that are hopefully very inexpensive (broke single mama budget, LOL) to put into place?

Or is this all covered in OM? Which I'm still getting to ...

THanks!

See if your library has the Hirsch books (what your K should know, what your 1st grader should know) and a book called something like "Books to Grow On" also by Hirsch which lists living books to go along with the subjects recommended by grade level in the other books. (I know that was a run-on sentence.) It would allow to put together an authoritative scope and sequence for court without spending a dime.

Gosh I have those books. Why didn't I think of that? :

It will help that I'm certified K-8 ...

Ugh. I hate divorce. Well I guess not as much as living with him. But that's a different forum.

I think this will have some resources you'd like, it's Charlotte Mason "style" but I think this would pr well with OM
