I figured out my problem with Flylady, too (other than the constant covert advertising). A lot of her tips are really, really, really useful--I give her full credit for getting me off my Franny and into a routine. However, I just plain prefer to get things done my own way. I prefer to get dressed and make the bed after breakfast instead of before. A lot of household chores I prefer to do on an as-needed basis instead of when she tells me to; it's a waste of energy to be constantly cleaning things that aren't dirty, and yes, I can tell when something is starting to get dirty and yes, I can get off my Franny and clean it then. Instead of getting up 15 minutes earlier than my husband and then planning a Friday date night, I spend those daily 15 minutes snuggling with him in bed and by Friday we're still in love.
For me, Flylady was an excellent launching pad, but now I like to be my own boss and I don't even have to e-mail myself to get myself to follow the routines.
Also, Judy, (Judys?
), I've discovered that having the motivation to do a whole lot right now is really not a bad thing at all. You're not going to get the whole house clean at once, but if you follow that inspiration every time you have it, you will make a big difference eventually. You don't have
to take baby steps timed in 15 minute segments. What matters is that you get up and move, not that you do it every day at a certain time for a certain length of time. At least that's what works for me, and I no longer live in CHAOS!
