Okay, so I was interested in going to this referred ped. dentist since Anna was really non-compliant about having her exam at the last dentist. They dont take our insurance so i ask about the price. they broke it down for me and an exam would be only 37 dollars. OKay. get a good date in time for school and then she tells me she has to check with the dr. if it's okay for just the exam. he tells her no. I question this, telling her it's not on my form anywhere for school that a cleaning must happen and so again she talks to the doc. Nope. No go. He says It HAS To be done for the health of the child's teeth. ughhh. so i didnt make the appointment. Im looking further for someone who works with our insurance.
So, what's the deal with that? Why would it be absolutely necesary if your childs teeth are clean enough to see whats going on in there? This doesnt seem right.

Not sure I follow- your schools require a dental exam? Like everything else- there is a way to opt out of the cleaning. Just say no and see what happens.

ITS NOT RIGHT!!!!!!!! not in most states, hes just trin to get your $$$$$!!!!!!!!!!!!! most kids wont even sit and have there teeth cleaned if there under 5!!!! and even if there over 5 most ins. WILL pay for just and exam!!! you dont have to get a cleaning to...... thats just dose not sound right!

if you tell me what you ins. is i could look it up at work i would need:
ins. full name i.e: tri care prime (army)
state that your ins. is for

hope all is well!!

The cleaning my kids get at the dentist isn't the scraping cleaning, just the brush, possibly some floss and/or flouride. They usually do the cleaning before the exam. Is there a reason you don't want the cleaning?

I've wanted to go in for just a cleaning before, but they wouldn't do a cleanign w/o a 'new patient' exam first to determine what 'type' of cleaning I needed. Very frustrating.

Shelbean: I wanted to both save my dd the length of time they were working on her and the first dentist has sent me to this particular one and it wasnt w/ my insurance so I asked them about the price for only the cleaning.
The first dentist we didnt get anywhere.. anna wouldnt even lay back on my lap, and cried a lot.
Thanks for the replies.

I'm dreading taking my 3 year old back to the dentist. He's been going since he was about 6 mos old b/c dd had a bunch of work she needed right after she turned 2. As ds1 has gotten older, he's gotten worse and worse about the dentist. I don't know if that's related to his autism or he just doesn't like the dentist, but it's now been about a year since he's been in. I think if I want him examined and teeth cleaned, I'll have to find someone willing to sedate just for cleaning and I'm not quite willing to do that.

Good luck.
