Things to have at home for 3-5 year olds. - Page 2

Great thread!

I just thought of another cool thing that was in my dd's art based preschool classroom. If you can find an old record turntable at a thrift store, on freecycle or something like that there are endless possibilities with it. She used to bring home paper plates that they painted, colored, glittered or whatever while the turntable was spinning. Just poke a hole in the middle of the plate and stick it on like you would a record. All of the kids thought it was a fun thing, there was always a line at that particular table.

Yikes! Just saw this question, sorry. I'll bet you already know the answer though, as an interesting thread exclusively about felt boards has popped up since you asked.

For my dd's birthday (4th), I'm going to give her a tape recorder. I got this idea from John Holt, who suggested using it to make books on tape. But I think dd will love making recordings herself, too.

And for winter, another great thing is indoor play equipment. There is a book called *Rings, Swings, and Climbing Things* -- out of print, so look at the library or buy used -- that gives instructions for making a simple, cheap "doorway gym" (once you put in the hooks, they can accomodate a swing, rope ladder, trapeze, rings, or whatever suits you and your kids). If you're a little more ambitious, it also gives relatively simple instructions for a folding wood climber, which with a blanket thrown over it, doubles as a playhouse or tent or castle or cave or whatever.

Wow- some really good ideas here...

My 3 year old LOVES mazes....I make them up myself or make copies
off the internet....obviosly they can't be too difficult for a young child.
I have googled preschool mazes and came up with a few.
