Recommend a Good Snap Press to me...

I want to make some diapers, but we are hating the velcro on ds. All of his AIO's are making us nuts! I found a snap press the other day that looked like a pair of pliers, and the end had a rubber thing that I guess you squeeze the heavy duty snaps onto somehting.

If anyone has a snappress, would you tell me how easy it is, and where to buy one. And how much they cost!

The pliers ones don't really work.

I use an industrial press that's made for rivets, but I got the dies for it from www.diapershop.com

I've hammered snaps on several diapers for DS and they're holding up pretty well - but there's no way I'd want to do more than a couple snaps at a time this way.
I only do side-snapping dipes this way, too. I tried a front-snapping dipe ONCE. Besides being a headache to make, once it was done I hated it - all of the metal made me think of braces.

I'm hoping to upgrade to a press for polyresin snaps soon. I've looked at diapershop, the snapstore, make-it-snappy, and snaphappy. Looks like snaphappy is in Canada, so the shipping would be more, but from what I've seen the others all have the same prices, and I don't know enough about snap presses to know if the product is identical, too.

Are there any differences in the product or the customer service that would recommend one store over another?
Do the snaps from one store work with the press/dies from another?

the only snapping diapers we have ever owned are Kissaluvs 0's. I like those litttle plastic snaps. Do I have to specify I want those little snaps and the snap press tomake them?

Kissaluv's (and most diapers) use Size 20 Poly Resin snaps. You do need to specify the size of the dies and snaps. The snap press is the same.

i bought a snap press from serena on amitymama. she is an ex pat living in china and ships from there. it's a great package deal including a kam snap press, 1,000 snaps and shipping for $100. shipping takes several weeks though. for $125, she ships air (or something like that) and you'll get it in 3 weeks. she has great feedback and i love my press.

This sounds like a great deal.
What do you do when you run out of the snaps it comes with? Do the dies work with snaps from thesnapstore or diapershop?

I have one from Ebay, originally from Make it Snappy. I like my snap press alot!

I saw s.o has one up for sale here on the TP too but I don't know what kind it is.

As for Carmen at Snap Happy-I just ordered a bunch of snaps and dies from her for the first time and she has been super helpful! So if you do get a press, go there for your snaps!


I don't know where you live but you can always rent one from a local mama. But I can't say who that Mama would be in this thread.

it works with any standard snaps, snapstore or diapershop.

I know this is an OLD thread, but I thought I might get more replies if I bumped. I'm getting a snap press, probably the one from thesnap store. With the right dies, I can use both metal and poly resin snaps- right?

Also, if you could only get one size snap- what would it be? reg.or extra long? I'll mostly use it for bibs and diapers.

I have the KAM press from Serena too. She has dies for metal and poly resin snaps. If you're making mostly bibs & diapers, stick to the poly resin snaps. They're sooooo much easier!

Serena has a Yahoo group HERE. Shipping from China isn't as long as you'd think.

Serena is by far the best person to get a press from. It is by far the cheapest when you figure in the $50 in free snaps.

FYI, I have a snap press from OSDiaperShop. Snaps from the Snapstore WILL NOT work with my press. The Snapstore sells KAM snaps. However, if you order from Serena in China, her press package is a great startup cost and her dies are the same as from the Snapstore, so you could reorder KAM snaps from the Snapstore. Or reorder from Serena, she sells sets of 100 KAM snaps for $5, and I think shipping is included. From the Snapstore they are $8 for 100 sets.
At any rate, if I had a choice to do it over again I would order from Serena. OSDS is spendy, they charge a lot for shipping and you can't get the snaps anywhere else. On top of that, I had a problem with my snap press a few months back, e-mailed OSDS for help and they never replied. Luckily I had just stumbled upon the Diaper Sewing Divas website and those awesome ladies had the anwers I needed!
Oh, and ETA: If you need dies, Serena sells them for $15 a set. The Snapstore will sell the same one for $28.
