Dh, who is a bit of a carpenter by hobby, scanned in some lovely illustrations of the ballet steps. he then printed them on nice paper and made one long frame for holding the steps. Then he trimmed it with contrasting wood.
It is really stunning.
I know Bean will adore it!

We'll all have to post pictures as we make things!

Some cleaning package ideas:

Laundry in a Box: Box with simple homemade lable (very simplistic and contemporary) of:
-Natural soap (bar)
-washing soda (box of )
- instructions for making laundry soap with those ingredients
- lavender sachets for dryer (dried lavender sewn into small bean bags of fabric for tossing in the dryer for scent)
- linen spray homemade and instructions

Home care in a box:
- vinegar
- baking soda
- tea tree oil
- all purpose orange cleaner concentrate
- hydrogen peroxide
- squirt bottles (2 or 3)
- instructions on how to use these to make all the standard home cleaning options and an article on why it is a healthy choice !

Bath Care in a Box :
you can make a tub centered gift of tub teas, soaks, soaps, sugar scrubs, or whatever you dream! homemade deodorant options, body sprays, lip balms, salves, etc.
some recipes in my link below -

Baby Care in a Basket :
- baby wash bags (recipe in link)
- lavender sachets for dressor
- homemade salve for bum or dry skin (recipe in link)
- tub tea
- massage oil for baby (I would use sweet orange oil as it is mild for babies-recipe in link)

those are standards, and you can branch out and get creative!

For dh I have done kits of
-aftershave
-bath salts
- scrubby boy scented soaps
- shaving balm

For pregnant women I make belly butters in ice cube trays , the same recipe as tub candy in link

My friend and I are making these gorgeous scarves similar to something we saw at Anthropology. It is a bunch of different types of yarn, ribbon and then you make three bunches and plait them. Tie the ends off with ribbon and wear out and about. They are so pretty. I will have to post a picture later. We are making them for our moms, friends and ourselves. Very trendy and lovely!

In their dollar bins, Target has wooden cheese boards. I bought a few and am brainstorming what I might do with them. I'd like to decorate them in some way for the holidays (decoupage, paint, etc.) and give them with some homemade bread or something as a holiday gift.

Does anyone know what type of sealant I could put over paint or decoupage to make it safe for serving food on?

One year I gave my husband a pizza peel . . . you know, those giant wooden spatulas to get pizza out of the oven. I used a dremel to carve his nickname in it. You might try carving something in your cheese boards. Maybe something cheesy like "Say Cheese" or "Where's the wine?" :

For my nieces (4, 7, and 10) - knitted funky bell-shaped legwarmers (they're still "in" right?) - anyone have a pattern?
For dd (2) - her bday is jan 10, so not sure which gifts will be birthday and which will be yule:
-wooden train found at garage sale
-wooden rocking horse found at consignment store
-wooden teacups found at garage sale
-sewing an apron and chef's hat (pattern from Ottobre)
-sewing Waldorf-style doll
-sewing a Yule dress
-sewing a stocking
-sewing some kind of regular clothes - maybe corduroy pants and a long sleeve shirt
-I'll try to make a couple felted balls (maybe one in each teacup)
For my nephew - what do you make for a 15-year old hockey player whose mom is incredibly crafty herself? (he has gorgeous quilts, so a blanket is unnecessary)
For dh - a Ford themed flannel quilted blanket (no piecing)
-a black cotton sherpa housecoat/robe
That's all I've got so far

ETA: found a legwarmer pattern: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring03/PATTlegwarmers.html

Last year I made fleece hats/scarves/blankets/purses. This year I am making doll carriers for all the girls; slings, mai tei's and wraps and some baby carriers for the adults too! Not sure about all the boys.
