I recently bought an issue of this FABULOUS magazine thinking I would get a subscription for my daughter's fifth birthday, only to read that I had purchased the last issue, as she is no longer creating the magazine :-( Evidently she just can't keep it affordable, and is now going to focus on books. I was sooooooooo disappointed. Great to read of these other suggestions, I may check some out!

Oh, I'm so disappointed to here about All Round. We really wanted to get that. I'll second (and third) any of the Cobblestone magazines. I wanted to mention two that weren't mentioned yet that are also commercial free. Kids Discover (http://www.kidsdiscover.com/) and Moo Cow Fan Club (http://moocowfanclub.com). We love them both. I love Kids Discover so much that I've taken to bidding on back issues on ebay and now almost have the complete library from the beginning!

My daughter really enjoyed Your Big Backyard and I've been meaning to subscribe to Ranger Rick now that she's older.

I wasn't impressed with the quality of the stories in Ladybug, even though everyone else seems to like it.

We just got an issue of Highlights from the library - they were giving away extra copies - and DD really enjoyed it. It's a good mix of things, and would be great if you have kids of different ages.

DD got a subscription to Zoobooks from a cousin of mine as a gift, and it is a great magazine. Each one is full of information about one group of animals - monkeys, cheetahs, nocturnal animals, etc. They're a bit challenging but extremely informative, with great pictures, and they have a good website, too - www.zoobooks.com.

I refuse to get any magazines with advertisements. I am really looking forward to when DD is old enough for New Moon. I've heard that American Girl is a good magazine, too, as far as positive messages for girls go.
