Does anyone give their kids chamomille tea before bedtime?

My two youngest can get pretty wound up right before bedtime and I wonder if anyone gives thier kids herbal tea before bed? The reason I ask is I was making my Nighty Night tea and was reading the box and it mentioned that it was also for children. The tea has chamomill and passionflower in it. I had never thought about giving it to the two youngest, but they would probably enjoy it.

My kids have drank chamomile and a variety of other kinds of tea since they were drinking out of a cup We have mint tea every night around here.

I would not give it to my children but I understand why you are asking.I always found doing quiet activities like reading to them calmed them down and relaxed them before bed, although my children always stayed up late, they never made a lot of noise or bothered me, they just played quietly. I guess that is partly about the child's personality too, some children are more active and noisy than others.

I don't think the tea would make any more difference to their behaviour than a cup of warm milk, which would have to have more benefits nutritionally.

I think the effects of herbal remedies and teas on children are not well researched and that's why I would be reluctant to use them.

all the best

I used it in small amounts starting from 2 months old for tummy troubles when milk seemed to not sit well. It was very weak and only about 1/3 cup.

My 2 yr old has a bit of a cough and last night I made her some chamomile tea and added 1/2 tsp honey and it seemed to help soothe her.

Thanks, the two youngest will be quiet before bedtime if I put in a movie, but that is my least favorite thing to do. I try to read them books with the tv off and the house quiet. :LOL

we do a blend of something with chamomile every now and then. if it's been a rough day, dd is really cranky but having a rough time settling down.

we recently found "tropic of strawberry" which tastes like strawberry (it's 100% natural though! yay!!) and has some chamomile in it. we also like the traditional medicinals easy now.) we always drink it unsweetened.

I wouldn't want to fill Dd's bladder with tea before bed, but when it's been a stimulating day, I have been known to give her a tiny bit of water with Rescue Remedy. Or take it myself because she nurses to sleep.

Sometimes, if DD is having trouble falling asleep, I will fix her a non-caffiene tea, like Sleepytime. She plays quietly or reads during the process (boil the water, steep the tea, then she lets the tea cool to "drinkable" temperature) and sips it slowly. She's usually ready to go back to bed before the cup is halfway drunk.

We have used chamomile tea for upset stomachs for years. I'd rather use tea than commercial stomach remedies. We also use peppermint tea for stuffy noses and sore throats. Good stuff!

We will often give tea to help calm the kids down after a particularly busy and stimulating day. A bit of chamomile tea does seem to help. We usually offer it before we get ready for bed (which we have pared down to an hour long process :LOL )- so there is plenty of time to empty her bladder before bed. When DS was gassy as a small infant I would give him about a TB of cooled peppermint tea and it seemed to help his digestion. I also give them the traditional medicinal teas when they have a cold. A bit of throat coat, a eucalyptus oil bath, and a breathe right nasal strip, and they usually do pretty well with even the worst cold.

I do give my kids chamomile for bedtime and when they are being really out of control/ wild/ aggressive, either in tea or non-alcoholic tincture. It works great.

I take it a lot too, especially for sleep, or headache.

When DS is too tired and cranky to fall asleep, out comes the chammomile tea. Works like a charm!
