oh no! i think my sewing machine died. i was going to sew the rest of the doll today and when i sat down, the needle would take a SUPER long time to go up and down. i tried turning the side thing that makes the nedle go up and down but it was really tough to move. does it need oil or something or is it dead? if it is dead, i have 2 choices for sewing machines to buy, a Brother sewing machine from walmart that costs $78 or a basic Singer sewing machine from Target for $98. Which of the two would be better if i have to buy a new one?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

check the bobbin first and see if anything is caught and the other thing u could check is the bobbin winder..some machines have a feature where if the bobbin winder is pushed to the right u cant turn the 'wheel' on the side. u have to click the bobbin winder to the left position.
if are goin to buy a new one out of those 2 definitely go with the brother.
if it's the 1217 ur talking about, i
that machine and regret i sold it. it ran great for the over year and a half i had it...the singer on the otherhand i found lots of bad reviews and if a part gets broken/needs repair, our local repair guy (sewing machine EXPERT) said it's really hard to find parts and/or its expensive cuz singer went bankrupt some time ago and the company gets bought out every couple years so when a part is needed first they gotta figure out hmm was it made in malaysia or china or what that year
plus i just didnt like the singer. i returned it within about a week. if u can get a hold of an old singer like 60's or 70's those are good sturdy machines
