For those of us late....

Ok ladies. For those of us who are late... I was wondering. What is your plan of attack? If you continue to be late, how long are you letting Natural take its course? Are you going to induce? Herbal induction? Acupuncture? HOspital induction? etc....

My appointment is Thursday. Last week I was 2-3 cm. So i think if I am still pregnant thursday at my appointment I will ask her to strip my membranes. My thoughts are that I don't want my waters broke until VERY last resort. I think I would rather have them do the cervadil gel or whatever, before they do water breaking. My MW hasn't even suggested water breaking so that is good. I would probably try the cohosh tea or whatever as well before I do a hospital induction, since I am trying to avoid epidural and such.

I would not personally consent to an induction.. due dates are random random guesstimates.. I have in the past gone 43.5 weeks and my baby was fine, just needed longer to cook.

As annoying as being late is there is nothing I can do in good conscience abotu it.. and I would never let a "care" provider talk me into something like induction.

I do not really have an opinion on sweeping membranes and herbs.. personally I don't allow strange hands up my hoo ha.. :LOL so that ain't an option unless of course I have my husband do it.. but somehow I think we will pass
herbs? no real desire cannot imagne they would do anything anyhow.. labour is most efficient when it comes on its own.

JMO of course

Well I know EXACTLY when I conceived. So I know it is time for baby. We are having a hospital birth, with midwives so it makes it better. HOwever, they are going to want to start doing stuff if I go past 41 weeks. I just wanted to know what less invasive options others were trying.

Jamie,

I know when I conceived, too. And by that, I'm not really late at all. But they think I am, sooo....

Today, I walked, made love to DH, drank RRL tea, squatted, took EPO and placed some EPO up my hoo-ha. I don't know what else to do but wait right now.

Tomorrow, I'll call the acupuncturist and see if I can see her on Thursday.

They'll let me go 42.5 wks. If I fuss and go longer, I have a feeling the birth center will "risk me out" and send me to the hospital. I keep wondering what would happen if I "forogt" to show up at the hospital and showed up the birth center instead -- 10 cm and ready to go!

At this pt, I'm getting a bit concerned about being induced. No one has said anything. One m/w said they cld strip my membranes if I wanted, but she wasn't pushing it -- just offering it as an option.

Hmmm I know exactley when I conceived as well.. does not mean that I think 40 weeks is the magical day.. all babies are unique and different as are people.. and they each grow on their own timelines..

wanting to do "something" because someone reaches some said arbitrary 41 weeks is simply absurd IMO.. and I would never go along with Scare providers that were pushing that kind of mandate.

To each his own.

And since I am on a roll here ... I feel a need for a PSA...

Your body your baby ... NO ONE can make you do ANYTHING... just remember that and stand your ground.

"prenatal care" is in very sad shape in north america right now.. its pretty disgusting.

Marsupial--

I hear what you're saying about scare tactics. Maybe they are.

On the other hand, I think the reason the med profession instituted this "rule" about 42 or so weeks is because they were getting sued left and right. I did some reading on this in journals. I think that's also the reason for so many interventions...it looks better in court to have FHM and a c-section than it does to let things go naturally. It sucks, but that seems to be how it is in the country at this moment.

While I'm no fan of most doctors, I can understand them not wanting to get their bee-hinds sued off them.

Thanks ladies. Well I am doing the same stuff...sounds like. We walked around the neighborhood, I took 2 EPO capsules today and will take some more before bed, and DH is getting lucky. :LOL

My midwive actually said she doesn't usually strip membranes unless someone begs her. So she is pretty hands off. She actually only checked me at my last appointment because I wanted to know if ANYTHING was happening. I am 2-3cm. So nothing big, but a little something.

Isn't it funny how we want to get checked even though it doesn't mean much? :LOL

I was curious to know, so I checked myself once and then let it go at that.

jaimep-
just to let you know i'm doing the same thing around here, daily DH prostaglandin deposits, EPO orally and vaginally, RRL tea and today I'm going to start some acupuncture treatments. My midwives will sweep membranes on Monday if I want, but we'll wait and see, I think we'll have a baby before that.
