i sewed something!

i am just so pleased with myself! yesterday i made an apron for myself and it's got lots wrong with it, but you can still tell it's an apron! :LOL and today i made my husband an apron and it's damn close to perfect! yay for me!
i've got stuff coming from the one stop diaper shop this week, and i wanted to feel comfortable with my machine before it got here, and now i do!
i am so excited about all the possibilities i have before me.
i am totally going to learn how to quilt after i master diapers!

Woohoo! Good for you!!! I hope my first real knitting project turns out as well! (I'm making a stuffed pig. I'm not counting the washcloth I made before to test out my straight knit stitching *g*)

Good for you! I sewed something this week, too - I made a sling! And it was really easy!

Way to go! I am thrilled for you. Sewing is totally my therapy. Cuz when I have one of those days where nothing stays done (or gets done in the first place) I can sew up a quck project and have something to show for a piece of my time. Even if it's a part of a project, it feels so good!

now i am working on a little dress for shoshie! it has a gathered skirt, and it has taken me 4 tries before i have gotten the hang of it! but i consulted my handy-dandy reader's digest complete guide to dewing and figured out what i was doing wrong!

Would you recommend that book for beginners? I just got a sewing machine for Christmas and haven't had the nerve to try it yet. I really need a good beginner book to help me out. The manual is so so on directions and doesn't give any extra advice other than the technical points to the machine. I don't have many friends that sew-at least not locally, so I'll be teaching myself.

yeah, i like the book. it's very detailed. it goes over basic machine parts and functions, different fabrics and notions, terminology. my mom sent it to me, and it wasn't the one i had picked out for myself, but it's been very helpful and i am glad i have it.

as for that dress i am working on... i finally figured out how to gather the waistband and then i attached the bodice incorrectly so i am now tearing THAT seam apart. sigh. can't wait to see how the sleeves go. :
