Making a Swaddling Blanket

Does anyone have directions or measurements for swaddling blankets?
I know you can swaddle with a regular blanket with folds- but i never was able to, so want to go the easy route this time.
Also, what kind of material should one use to ensure the baby doesnt over heat? Ill be having the baby in early Nov in south texas- so the weather will be mildly cold mostly.
Heres an exaple of what Ive seen

I've seen a better picture of these somewhere that might help you. Let me have a look around and I'll get back. Oh, and I'd use a light flannel so if you need to double it when you sew it won't be too hot. My babe is going down for a nap shortly I'll look for it then.

I remembered where I saw it now. A friend of mine has a very simillar pattern. I'll ask her to see which pattern it is and where she got it.

Betcha thought I'd never get back! Okay, I think this is the wrap my friend uses. Due to a messy pattern box and a possible loaning out we're not 100%. It's called a Snappy Wrap and the pattern can be found at Sew Baby. They are not the only ones with the pattern. You can do a Goolge for it and find others. The pattern runs about $8. HTH!

What if you started with a regular blanket, cut it down some and added some velcro?

Keepsake Quilting also has a very cute pattern.

I am going to buy this pattern myself. It is so cute. Looks a little different than what you are looking at, but is very similiar. I agree with a double layer of flannel for your climate. I will have to do one in fleece, as it does get cold here. If you want to do one without a pattern, go about 3 feet 2 inches square and round off the edges. This will be a great size for a newborn to probably about 6 months at least. (round the edges with a compass or measure say 6 inches from each corner and use a medium sized bowl, line up with the two marks off each corner and trace around the bowl, I have rounded edges on several projects this way) Good luck. If you go with Keepsake, request a free catalog. They carry a lot of fabric and other things also..
