Serging problems...UGH!

So I'm new to serging and it's not going well.

The thread keeps coming out of the tension disks while I'm serging and mess the whole thing up. Any ideas why this is happening? I'm using Woolly Nylon and wonder if that has something to do with it.

Also, I guess I am just no good at going around tight curves and need more practice. I'm trying to make shaped mama pads and they come out looking terrible. I'm considering just doing them with corners, but I'd really prefer shaped

I can't help with the tension disks, but perhaps you could use some regular thread for a while and see if that helps?

Regarding corners, I really struggled with that until I started cutting a large rectangle and then drawing with a washable marker the shape (I made a template out of paperboard first). Then follow the curves with your knife.

I have never had a problem with the woolly nylon ever coming out of the tension disc, it is hard to tell what the problem is without seeing it but here are a few things to check.
- check to see if the thread is threaded properly, some tension disc have little steel things sticking out that the thread should either wrap around or go under, just check in your owners manual to see if it is threaded properly.
- when wrapping the thread around the tension disc you have to pull it up tight so it snaps in betwwen the disc and the machine, just grab both ends and pull tight to see if it will go into place.
- is your tension to loose.

check these few things and see if that helps. I always have to change my tenion when switching from thread to woolly nylon.

As for turning corners, it does take some practice. The trick is to be going the right speed, not to fast and not to slow and use your hands to turn the fabric as you are sewing. It will come in time.
