nak, of course

Hi, all you sleep-challenged mamas. Anyone else getting the sweats in the middle of the night? For the past two nights I've woken up in the wee hours of the morning drenched and chilled. I'm a week PP.

I had my baby six months ago but I remember waking up drenched in sweat for a few nights upto about 10 days pp. It was good as I lost about 25Ib in that time which my MW put down to the extra fluid i had accumulated during pregnancy and was sweating out! But it still felt gross!

Yep. I've had the window open with cool air blowing in, so I was in a cold sweat too. Yuck!

Now that you mention it, yes. It seemed weird to be sweating at night, I thought it was from having baby next to me. It will be one month tomorrow pp.

This can be a hormone imbalance or an early warning of thyroid issues....

Or just postpartum water-weight loss. It is normal PP - happened to me with all of mine. Nice easy way to lose some weight!

I have never experienced night sweats as part of a normal PP weight loss thing.. your mileage may vary.. personally I think the most likely reason is the hormone levels of estrogen fluctuating PP... and as I said it can be a warning that your thyroid is a bit messed up.

Thyroid issues PP are SOOO common and many go undiagnosed and they can impeed with milk production.. mimic PPD...and cause you keep more weight on than you normally would.

yep, starts out as shivering uncontrollably and then being soaked, makes for a chilling night feeding experience. Kitty

PP sweats are very normal and very common. I have been having them too and waking up freezing cold! I warn all my women they might be coming. Also, if you have had IV fluids/epidural, you will have even more because of the fluid load shifting!

Although they can also signify thyroid issues, postpartum women seem to just them because of the fluid load, not necessarily indictative of anything wrong.

OH and also, I was 197 pre-pregnancy weight and I now weigh 183. Go night sweats (it helps to know it's helping with the water loss!!). I've been bummed that once again I can't nurse without holding everything with two hands so no naking for me, so it's good to have an upside to something!! I can see my knees!!! Kitty
