Flouride and toddlers

My BIL is a dentist and he looked over DD's teeth recently and said they look great. We then began to discuss flouride and he said that DD should see the dentist more frequently b/c no flouride. Has anyone else taken their toddler to the dentist? Does anyone use flouride toothpast on their dc's?

I don't use flouride toothpaste with dd -- she's still in the eating it stage. I know I need to go to a dentist and would like to find a childern's dentist in the area for her. I hadn't heard anything about going more frequently because of the lack of flouride, but I can see how a dentist would want to stay on top of it to make sure things are ok.

How old is she? I took dd for the first time at two just to make sure things were going good. Took her back again at three, then one year later at four. Now she's going every six months for cleanings

She's 23 months and I had planned on taking her in at two. I think he just wanted me to make sure her teeth were ok and like the pp said to keep on top of it. He just got me a bit worried and I wanted to know what other mamas were doing.

in our town, we have 2.5 times the max recommended limit of fluoride in the municipal water supply (naturally occuring). we are dubbed the "town without a toothache" in public health circles. However, i sublease space from a dentist, and there are PLENTY of people, esp. children who come in with dental decay. I agree with most people that tooth decay is in large caused by a poor high sugar diet, not by lack of flouride. Flouride attacks our body on a cellular level and should be avoided. The only way to get it out of your drinking water is to use a reverse osmosis system. For more info on the toxicity of flouride, you can search mercola.com. Dr. Mercola actually states that flouride is more toxic to our bodies than lead.
