I think I convinced my first mama...

not to circumcize!

It's hard for me to make the argument since my child is a girl & not a boy, but I feel very informed & able to back myself up. The mothering article also helped immensely.

Just wanted to thank you all for such great, informative discussions.

Yay!

I think moms of girls can be great advocates, too - I have a ds and a dd (ds is the elder), but I tell people ds was MUCH easier to keep clean - way fewer nooks and crannies to wipe out! I wouldn't cut my dd for hygienic reasons (or for ANY reason), why would I cut my son?

People in this country don't get that male circ and female circ are the same thing, because we're so used to thinking of female circ as an evil thing done by people in foreign countries and male circ as a normal thing done by our "advanced" society. But cutting a baby is cutting a baby no matter which way you slice it. Whether it's done in a hospital or done in the bush it's still wrong.

Good Job Gwen! Everytime you discuss circumcision, a seed is planted and sometimes that's all it takes to get people started on the road to discovery. It doesn't matter if you are a Momma to boys, girls, or not even a Momma at all!

If there is a chance that whoever you talk to will question it, usually with just minimum prodding, they will

Take care,
Tara

Yay! Great job - thanks so much for your hard work

That is so wonderful. Once a person begins to think about it, really think about it, I don't see how the absurdity of it can NOT dawn on them.

Way to go!!!

Nice job!

I hope I'll be here saying the same thing after I talk to my pregnant sister.
