How soon after filling/sealant can DS nurse?

Thread Starter
In anticipation of having one of DS's (18 months) teeth filled in a few weeks and the other sealed (his L upper central incisor is getting the filling and the R side the sealant), I'm wondering how soon afterward he can nurse? The current plan if I go through with it is (unfortunately) a local (topical anesthetic and then novacaine) and the papoose board. I'm sickened at the thought but don't want to do general for a single filling. Ugggh. Still mulling this over. His decay is at the upper lingual side of the tooth...his tooth is naturally concave back there on both sides, and that's where the decay ended up. Not really visible from the front.

In any case, I'd like to be able to comfort DS as soon as possible with his nursies

Smilemomma or anyone else, any advice?

Not an answer to your original question, but just wanted to chime in and say to make sure you get composite/tooth-colored fillings as opposed to mercury, aka amalgam/"silver" fillings for your child. Just in case you didn't already know.

Thankfully when I asked the dentist said it would be composite. I wouldn't touch mercury amalgams with a ten foot pole : Thanks for the reminder in case anyone else is reading this though

Ahhhh...I keep doing that. I post from Dh's computer sometimes not realizing he's automatically logged on. Yes, he has his own MDC acct Anyway, the post by lilcrunchie was me originally as was the post from bigcrunchie. I'm an idiot :

Immediately.
You can nurse him right away.
Is the dentist open to an alternative to the papoose board? I have had experience with the papooses when dd was 27 months. It was very traumatic to be strapped down. By appointment #3, we took her special blanket, wrapped her in it and then I held her hands, more of a comfort, then a restraint. But definitely to ensure that she didn't reach up to her mouth during the procedure, which she didn't. Another alternative is nitrous oxide. These alternatives are discussed in the archives if you want to check it out.
