I'm vacationing in Denver this week and decided to see what a "real" fabric store was like - we just have a small JoAnn's back home...
I went to Denver Fabrics which just so happened to be .3 miles from a real, live cloth diaper/ AP store (which was also wonderful
) and OMG!!!
Their regular store had several displays of WOOL. For $12 a yard and under and I could pet it!
Jerseys, interlock, flannel, cashmere, fleece, you name it. My local JoAnns has NO WOOL. Well..except the nasty 20%wool felt.
Then, they had YKK separating jacket zippers, the same kind I use to sew my diaper bags, for only $.50 each!
They actually had 100% cotton and stretch cotton velvets! I can't get those locally.
They also had 200wt Malden Mills windpro! For $8 per yard.
Then (I still can't believe it) looking through the sale bin I found a bolt of 100% tencel gabardine for $2/yard. Tencel is so hard to get unless you want it already made into stuff. You just can't get the yardage.
I thought I was done, but then I headed next door to their outlet store.
Wool precuts for $7 a yard! I got an incredibly soft interlock in maroon. Which is great because I already have tons of stuff (including the tencel) to match it.
Then, I found cotton stretch velour for $3 a yard, in a flowered multicolor....
..a beautiful plaid cotton in reds and yellows for $2/yard. Gender neutral..
and the best part is these two GIANT tables dead center, where everything is (depending on the table) either $1 or $2 a POUND. Yes, that means an 8 oz fabric is $.50 a yard...and I got over 7 yards of beautiful khaki wide-whale corduroy for $3.66.
Oh, and did I mention there is some wool gabardine and fleece on the table? I got some black wool fleece, nearly a yard, for pennies.
I cannot believe some of you mamas are lucky enough to live near places like this!! OMG. I will have to visit my inlaws more since you can't order from the outlet store online.
Now to figure out how I'm going to get a suitcase size bag of fabric home on the plane...
I only had $30 cash so I couldn't even get near as much as I wanted. (No out of state checks.

: Yeah! What a great store! I would go seriously crazy there. I like looking at the online store, the B&M has to be awesome.
Sorry that you had to limit yourself. Next time I am sure you will bring lots of cash and an empty suitcase.

: Sounds like my husband! What a bunch of awesome finds!!! That reminds me of the HUGE fabric outlet near my MIL. I wanna go for a visit all of the sudden!
: But now that I know they have wool in the annex I guess I will have to make another trip.
Oh, and don't you love Under the Cabbage Leaf? I was thrilled when I found them!
