Montessori School / Non-VAX Friendly???

Hello Everyone,

Would anyone know if the Montessori schools are non-vax friendly? I have been researching the Montessori schools and got a packet of information today from the school I think I am interested in for my 2 1/2 year old and it has a large section of vax history to fill out. My son also nurses. We live in Indianapolis, IN which is not exactly loaded with AP friendly people. I have felt like my son is ready for some extra stimulation and I feel that Montessori is the route we want to go but I want him to be in an environment that is consistent with how we live at home. I don't want to have to fight a battle to enroll him for 3 mornings a week because he is not vaccinated. I am asking this question to you ladies to see what your experience has been. I have not asked the school yet. I just got the packet today (Saturday). I would appreciate any advice, suggestions, experience you might have.

If Montessori is not non-vax friendly do you know of any forums for children that would be?
Thank you,
CandiceCan

It will depend on the individual school.

Schools of any philosophy would set their own policies. I know in my state, I receive vaccine info too - it's mandated by the state and not up to schools whether to ask us for it or not. We selectively vaccinate, and we've never had a problem so far.

It's also a state issue - does your state allow philosophical/religious/other exemptions?

I would call the school and let them know that you've chosen not to vaccinate: how would they like you to fill out the paperwork?

Thank you for taking time to respond to my question. I am very glad to report that I talked to the school today and told them that we do not vaccinate. The response was wonderful, "what you choose to do with your child is not our business. Vaccination is a personal choice and we do not judge that, your son is welcome at our school." No kidding. I am thrilled. I am going to hold off until January to send my son b/c he will be 3 then and hopefully on the road to potty training. I could not be more pleased. Thank you Angela and Flyingspahgettimom for your input I appreciate it.

The Vax stuff they gave you is what the state requires them to ask. What MIGHT happen: They might have to ask you not to attend because of the no vax because the state won't let them let you attend. The school can't help it, that's the law. What CAN happen, if the director is willing to risk her neck and school for you, is that your child's form could be "overlooked" when they send in the paperwork. Why she would want to do that, I can't imagine.

Not quite. All states allow parents to not vax if it is against their religious beliefs. Some states have a philosophical exemption as well. Check out the Vaccination forum for more info.
