Switching my son one month into it?!?

DS,6, will be entering the "1st Grade" in September (I know, not much time left!), For Kindergarten he was homeschooled. Now, I would have liked to have been able to hs him this year as well, but because of my new status (single working momma with lots of debt and expenses), I can't. That's really another thread...so here's my question.

Due to above mention circumstances, I'll be relocating in late Sept/October. This being DS's 1st year in a public school, I really don't want to put him into a school for a month or two, yank him out, then plop him into another district with new environment, new kids, new teachers, new rules, etc.

Should I put in an "intent to hs", and technically hs him for September, then enroll him into whatever district we move into in October? (I'd probably submit the letter of intent to my parent's district and say I moved in with them--I get mail there and everything--since I missed the cut off from our current district). Would this pose as a problem for the new district if he were hs'ed for the 1st month or 2?

Thanks for any help. I'm in NY (yes, I searched for HSing in NY, but can't find any that really address the mid-year switch).

Kelly

PS-Mods, feel free to move this if you have to--I wasn't sure if it would go under HSing or School forums.

I would contact the future school and ask for some advise.

Sorry--I didn't clarify. I have NO idea what the future district will be. I'm in a funny situation. I have to move the 27th of September, but I won't have a job for another 4 weeks or so, so I can't put down 1st/last/security on a place. So I'm kinda in limbo about that. (That's why I was gonna register him as a HSer in my parents district--no matter where I end up moving, I can use that address in the mean time).

Register as a HSer for the month or so and then enroll him in Oct.

I just did this, although in my state we don't have to register as HSers. I hs'd for kinder and was going to again this year but decided it's best for all if I don't. Ds really wants to go to public and I always said it is up to the kids, I won't force them to be hs'd if they don't want it, just as I wouldn't force them to stay in public if they don't.

anyway school started aug. 15th so he missed a few weeks and he starts fresh on Monday. They didn't bat and eye and enrolled him right in 1st grade. Good luck!

and best to you.
I think the hs reg is the best choice.
I really hope you can get on your feet, I think I read a post either by you or another woman in the same exact situation -- recently single and struggling needing to move, it was here on MDC.
You aren't alone.

I think your plan sounds like it would work out the best.

Good luck.

This is what I would do.

I agree I would homeschool for that first month and then enroll him wherever you move to. No sense is putting him in two new schools that close together, kwim?
