Jack is here! but in NICU

Jack was born at 4am this morning. I arrived at birth center at 5 cm and 3 hours later with 10 minutes of pushing au natural my 10 lb 1oz babe was here. But, he is in respiratory distress. He aspirated some meconium and there is a question of beta strep and possible pneumonia. His breathing has calmed down but he was transferred to a different hospital for special care. Transferred more for the fact that I was in a small place not equipped in case of emergency. Looks like he is going to be ok but oh boy this is just wretched. I was just discharged after 12 hours. I am pumping and as of now he is on iv only.

Oh mama, congrats and be strong. Mine was in NICU for a while and then in nursery in the incubator and it was so hard to not be with him 24/7. Hopefully you'll all be together soon. I think I'm done with the pump *crosses fingers* I had to tube feed for a while. Are you able to be with him most of the time? Are you able to board there? I was grateful that I could do that. Hugs...you're in my thoughts, Kitty

Congratulations on your new little guy! I hope he is OK and will be out of the NICU soon.

My ds ended up in the NICU for 4 days after he was born; if I had to do it over again I would find a certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) at www.ilca.org rather than relying on the hospital LC, who was a) overworked and b) completely useless. The IV and bottle feeding can make life a lot more difficult and it's great to have an expert who can help make sure your baby gets nursing as soon as possible!

Hang in there, mama.

I love his name! I really liked it for us but dh wouldn't agree.

Congratulations! And I'm so sorry he isn't with you right now but I'm glad he's on his way to getting healthy and strong so you can completely bond with him once he gets home.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm on my way back to hospital to be with him, stopped home for a minute to get some stuff. He aspirated meconium and has residual breathing problems and has GBS. 7 days minimum stay. He is trying to nurse and will be working on that. Back to my little Jack.
Best wishes to everybody.
