Just curious... how do you fill a pool?

I have been reading lovely home waterbirth stories and I am so psyched to eventually have one of my own... but I am curious... how do you fill the pool?

Waterbed kit, kitchen sink and a hose.

You can also use the waterbed kit to drain the pool w/ the hose.

We used the water from the washing machine. Hoses screw on perfectly.

We're going to use the hot water from the washer too. Our's is in the basement so we needed to get a long garden hose to span the distance.

We got an adapter to hook up the hose to the kitchen sink & we turned our hot water heater way up before the birth so we had enough hot water.

we hooked a garden hose up to our utility sink in the laundry room. I don't think we used an adapter of any kind.

I will be using a Python (http://www.pythonproducts.com/nospill.htm) to fill and drain my birth tub. It's a siphon that hooks up to your sink - you set it to fill or drain and turn the water on and you're set to go! It's made for filling and draining aquariums, so the hose is UV stabilized and non-porous, which eliminates the possibility of adding dangerous chemical toxins into the water. It comes in lengths of 25, 50, 75 and 100 feet, I believe - and you can also buy hose extentions for it.

: The bigger your water heater the better. A smaller one still works, it just takes longer to fill the tub. We are using a rubber hose (no pvcs) from Home Depot. Once you have your hose see if it screws on to the sink you are using (before trying to screw on the hose see if you can unscrew the part from the sink right where the water comes out). If not, you need to get an adapter. I believe they make universal adapters.

so do we need a new hose? My husband seems to think that the hose from outside will be fine. Is there some way to clean it? I suggested running boliling water through it, but he said that would ruin the hose. help!

Mellymel - our MWs suggested a new hose for the filling; an old one would be fine for draining (esp. imp. if you do a test run like we did).

thanks for the reply. I will start shopping around for a cheap one. We only need about 10 feet, fifteen at the MOST. I will also ask at my appointment next week what she suggests. Thanks.
