DS seemed to be having a great first day of public kindergarten! He was so excited to get on the bus that we got to the stop 20 minutes early and he actually climbed on first (holding the hand of the dd of an AP friend of mine) and they were singing "The Wheels on the Bus" :LOL
DH & I followed the bus to the school and when the kids got off the 4th and 5th grade band was playing and they had a little pep rally and let each of the grades march in one-by-one while the parents cheered.
They had all these sessions for the parents where we met the music, art, gym, reading teachers. The librarians - our school's liasion to the public library system, members of the county school board. We were able to check-in on the kids between each session and ds looked so happy!! They describe their discipline approach as "respect" - Respect yourself, your friends, your education, and property. The call the cafeteria the "Peace Cafe" and said it is a place to celebrate our friends and community and how well we all get along
One little boy was crying because he didn't want his mom to leave and the teacher told her she could stay until he was ready for her to leave. We ate lunch with the kids and they invited us back to eat lunch with them everyday if we want (course theymight be shocked when I take them up on it
)
I know it is the first day and anything could happen down the line, but given my anxiety about it, I am so happy it went well. Though here is the ringer --- I am still pretty sad, ykwim? I mean ds was more than ready for us to go, but I wanted to stay
