Enya'd OUT!

Alright... new mom here...

I've been playing more mellow music now that I have a little one and incorporating it into our routine to suggest when it's sleepy time.

The thing is, all I really have that fits into that category is Enya, and I am ENYA'D OUT!!! Please, no more Enya!!

Anyone have any suggestions for similiar - but different - relaxing music??? Thanks!!

How about Carly Simon? She has a new CD of standards out called Moonlight Serenade and it is AWESOME!!!

Can you tell that I adore Carly Simon ?

Same here, though I do give ds some other music in the car, etc.

I just got a great Putamayo kids cd from the library the other day. It's not quiet, but it's got great songs & singers on there.

I also will pop in some Sade, Nora Jones, Miles Davis, India.Arie, a variety of classical music, Pavarotti's greatest hits, Dido, Kenny Loggins/Loggins & Messina.

In addition to the ones mentioned above, I also like to listed to 'nature sounds'. Ocean, rain, whales, etc. It's very relaxing.

Loreena McKennitt has some nice relaxing stuff too, if you celtic type stuff.

Oh, and Allison Krause has nice stuff too.

DW really likes Deva Premal and WAH!

Both my kids love Dan Zanes Night Time disc, which is the only children's music I ever put on just for myself.

I second the vote for Allison Krauss, and would also suggest Paul Simon, Gillian Welch, Return of the Grievous Angel, Emmylou Harris, Altan, Van Morrison or Mark Knopfler. If you like Celtic, consider The Chieftains. I really like Long Black Veil and Down the Old Plank Road.

Schrody - THANKS for suggesting the Parsons tribute! DW and I didn't know about it...and we LOVE the folks on there... esp. Gillian! We're out the door to grab a copy now! Great stuff.

What about Clannad? It's Enya's family (her sister and a few uncles, iirc) and they have calm stuff but some of it more lively too. If you ever saw "Patriot Games", they did the theme song for that.

I second Deva Premal. Also Soulfood, Cesaria Evora (if you are okay with non-English lyrics), and the Buddha Bar collections for some variety.

I just hit the library again and got "Heigh-Ho Mozart" Disney songs by classical orchestras and Putamayo's Dreamland (ds really loved this-put it on when we got in the car). Another group that is great-along the Clannad line of music-is Bel Canto. It's great music for meditation and relaxation. Also, John Williams Spanish Guitar music is phenominal, as is the collection of his movie theme songs-I love the theme for Empire of the Sun.

Ds liked Sarah McLachlan when he was younger.

When dd was a baby, we listened to classical music, soft piano or guitar jazz (like Blossom Dearie or Django Reinhardt), spanish guitar, gershwin...anything soft and not too jarring. We love ethnic music so we also listen to latin or indian music (not ragas, though LOL). Find a store or libary that lets you test listen before you buy or rent.

Now that she is 6, she drags out these CDs at night when she wants something calm to listen to.

Wanted to toss in a recommendation for Innocence Mission--not only are they a great group with many albums out, but they just released a lullabye album last year.
