So I was up to 2am last night reading through the first thread and the August thread, but I just wanted to poke my head in here and say hello.
Oh, and Moneca, I think you PMed me awhile back about my homeopath and I didn't get back to you
Quick intro: (My story is all over this webiste :LOL )
My 3 1/2 yr old has reacted to tons of foods since his, surprise, 1st and only vaccine (which is also when his poop changed incidentally). Anyhow, we've been dealing w/it homeopathically, but, as much as I love my homeopath, he doesn't "get" this gut thing and keeps thinking it is behavioral issues. (Probably b/c he is still nursed
). Anywho, he (and I ) are off of gluten, dairy, soy (although I've been sneakin' it, doesn't seem to affect him since he doesn't nurse that much) yeast, peanuts....maybe something else. I'm thinking definately yeast w/him (NICU stay) and possibly some mercury stuff. I know that if we vax-ed him, he would be autistic or worse. There is no doubt in my mind and I really feel like I dodged a bullet. He has some SID issues when eating foods he reacts to. Otherwise he is surprisingly very healthy.
Me: Was on birth control pills for 9 years. So a nice long time to cause real gut problems. I'm now reacting to gluten, figured I'm celiac. React to more stuff though. Dairy is off as is corn (which I'm currently eating, b/c I'm in denial about it--I mean its just a runny nose right??? <---insert sarcasm, as I'm sneezing after eating a bowl of organic rice and corn chex). My family has always had bad reactions to vaccines, and my sister has lupus and hypothyroidism after her MMR booster. Let's see what else. I have no fillings (thank god), but eat a ton of fish, mostly wild salmon though, although I have a new love for suishi.
Lil guy, almost 10months old. Incredibly happy lil' guy, but wakes often at night--not sure if it is a co-sleeping thing or a belly hurting thing. (Presently it is a "two front teeth coming in" thing). Reacted to banana (which he stole from me at about 8 m), and I can't eat eggs either. When I eat eggs he gets these lil' dry patches on his legs and such and wakes a lot at night. He doesn't really eat anything, doesn't like mushed stuff, but will gnaw on cucumber, raw kale (
), broccoli, asparagus---anything green really. He does gnaw on plums and peaches too. He has not had any grains, and won't for a long time
Due to this road, we eat very healthy. Almost all organic, almost all homemade. We do not eat land meat, only fish, and I do not want to go back to dairy (ethical and moral stuff). So that always creates some problems.
So where do I start.
I just amazon-ed some books the BTVC and MD, and I got Jane's yogurt maker (looking for a dairy-free starter btw). My big guy and me are going to start the diet. We have not done the poop test ($$$) as I would rather assume that is what is going on. I can always change drs (mine doesn't "get" it), but don't feel like going through the hassle, but maybe I will. I also want to start the fancy cleanse thing that Moneca did, bennonite, some other stuff I can't spell, can my big guy do this too?
I have so many questions, and realize I'm being incoherent. My mind is totally swimming w/all this info---I know you all understand.
What about coconut milk yogurt? I found one on pecanbread for almond yogurt. Anyone have a recipe?
What about supplements? We had CLO (Nordic Naturals), but haven't gotten a good way to get them in us yet. Is EPO necessary? How about probiotics? I always took GOL, but I read that some of it is out on the SCD. What do you all recommend.
We have a lil extra $ right now, so I'd like to buy what I need ASAP, so would love to hear what you all recommend.
Oh, when you talk about coconut oil, are you talking about the regular stuff or the extra virgin stuff?
And a lil' co-op tip. If you are buying a lot of one thing, like Jane's Thai Coconut Milk, you can ask your co-op to buy a case of it for you and it is much much much cheaper. Don't know if anyone is doing this already.
Oh, ETA, what is the deal w/cradle cap? My 3 1/2 yr old has it still, and my 10 month old has copious amounts of it (under the hair thankfully).
Okay, more reading, thanks!!!!
