Runny/Stuffy Nose - Cold or Allergies?

I have a questions for all of you experienced mothers out there. My 6 mo has had a runny/stuffy nose for the past week. He started out having a sneezy day, with some shallow coughing and clear discharge from his nose last week. Then the sneezing stopped and the discharge became more mucusy and with the typical little-kid crustiness that I treated with saline drops. Now it's back to clear with occassional shallow (throat) coughing. He only seems really bothered by it when trying to sleep...he wakes up and is very uncomfortable and has a hard time nursing...so it's been a couple of really rough nights. He seems to do better upright in his swing (slept there 5hrs last night). Anyway, I have a history of nasal allergies and am concerned that this might be a sign that he has developed them now that ragweed is high in WI. Though I was told by my ped and other professionals that it is really uncommon for an infant to show signs of nasal allergies. I've checked the Sears Baby Book and while he addresses allergies, he doesn't really discuss the symptons. So, are these allergy symptoms or...just a cold. Anyone have any opinion on this?

Thanks,
mskgandn

My ds is going through something similar... At first I thought it was just teething symptoms (his top teeth are working their way through). But then dh and I both got sore throats, stuffy nose, followed by drippy nose... Then again, one of our coworkers was sick, so we could have gotten something from her.
