Reliable Thermos for Lunch Boxes?

Need Reliable Thermos ASAP! Not the cheapie plastic leaky bottles they sell along with them now Pretty Please!

Slight vent: I'm sorry but the Thermos brand just stinks in my book now! They use plastic bottles with leaky lids. What happened to the days when they actually had a lid that twisted on and a cup on top? It was universal could be used for a drink or for soup.... Anyways sorry to complain just bugged b/c yesterday was DS's first day of 1st grade and milk leaked all over his food I am against the disposable "juice packs" b/c they just go in the land fields but today I had to send him with one

I have a few of them that I've bought(and seen) in pretty much every store. I have some that are thermos brand, others which are no-name brand and they all hold up, even when my dd dropped one and broke the outside of one of them. They all hold hot or cold, just like the ones we had as kids did.

Does your school have a recycling program? Ours recycles the tetra packs.

That's odd because I was going to suggest a Thermos brand.

DD has a drink container (12 hours for cold) and one of the larger, squater "food" ones (5 hours hot I think ) and we've tested them out and they work great. DD took milk to school yesterday and today with no problems. There is a screw on lid that you push a button on and then a straw pops up (the lid is plastic).

We got them at Target.

We've always gotten our Thermos brand at Target as well, & they have worked great. tghey are exactly as you describe--a flat twisty top and then a cup/cover over that. I bought two new ones just the other day (still have two dc in school, dangnabbit!) The ones I buy come in various colors, and are the shorter, wider ones--not the very tall narrow coffee ones, but not the teeny tiny ones. I made lunches for my oldest non-eating sandwich son for 8 years using these Thermos bottles. We have always been amazed at how well they insulate.

Ok thank you! Yes I do need to check out Target!

Honestly, I did not buy my DS's lunch box this year and he is my oldest so I haven't even looked at any lunch boxes umm since I was a kid.

Soooo good to hear they still make these types PHEW!
Needless to say I will be going to Target with him tonight since we could walk there in 10 minutes

We also have the Thermos brand ones. Got them from Target too. The ones we got did not come w/ lunchboxes. We bought them separately because I wanted the stainless steel inside and out. They seem to be holding up well (it's only been 2 weeks, though).

Just adding my commercial for the wide mouth stainless steel Thermos brand thermos...I throw out the ones that come with the lunch bags, or at least don't send them to school.
We are going on 3 years with this thermos, and it gets a lot of use, because dd loves soup, leftover Chinese food, bean burritos (that I squash inside the themos).
My hint for the best results: when you're making the hot lunch in the morning, boil some water and pour it into the thermos and let stand for like 5-10 minutes (with the lid tightly sealed). It seems to hold in the heat better that way. And I have better results if I actually heat the soup on the stove than if I microwave it before putting it in the container...maybe it's my microwave, but you know how they can have "cold spots" . Anyway, food doesn't stay warm as long...(I'm willing to believe that this is just my own prejudice against microwaves!!)
