Hi all. Last night I was feeling pretty sore & achey (isn't it too soon for that?!), so I dug out my pregnancy yoga video and did that after the kids went to bed. I forgot how great that feels. They did a relaxation exercise at the end, and I felt so relaxed and peaceful when it was done that I didn't want to get up off the floor. I felt so much better afterwards and then got a sound night's sleep. Anyone else do yoga when pregnant? I wish I could go to a class, but finding the time is a big factor.

I was thinking of joining a pre-natal yoga class, but my time is just so precious and I have become quite a home-body outside of work. I need recommendations for preggo yoga videos... help!

I'm in the market for another pg yoga video too. Can't think of the name of the one I have but I don't really like it.
I always check out amazon, they have quite a few pg yoga videos and they're all user rated. I need to look through those again...
I keep hearing people say not to do yoga during the first tri...is that accurate?! I'm thinking just not starting something like astanga yoga if you've never done it before, etc..

The video I have is from Yoga Zone & it's called Postures for Pregnancy.
They say in the video that it is safe for all stages of pregnancy. I believe we have a mama on the board who teaches yoga. She may have some info.

I have a yoga video that I have been meaning to do. Haven't gotten around to it yet, and now that M/s has hit, I don't know if I'll feel like it anytime soon. But I've promised myself to break it out before the baby is born!
I had the same video all through my first pregnancy and never even took it out of the plastic.

I've been wanting to do some yoga as well I just need to find some resources. I'm going to go to the library and see what they've got. I know the routine I would do sometimes before PG is probably not going to be the way to go. I think I want to wait til my 1st prenatal though and see what the MW thinks.

I can't wait to go back to my class. It was the best thing ever. I yoga'd my baby out of me during my last labor. What an experience.
In fact, gonna go look up my teacher's schedule right now......

Great topic!
I teach prenatal yoga (and mommy and baby yoga too)!!
I've been teaching it for about 3 years and the best time was when I was pregnant with DD. I am SOOOO excited that I get to teach pregnant again.....it's magical!
Videos...
I like Gurmukh's (sp?) and Collette Crawford's
They are very different but I like them both a lot.
Gurmukh's book, Bountiful, Beautiful, Blissful is amazing too!!
I also have Janet Balaska's book...can't remember the name and Jeanine Parviti Baker's book (all of her amazing birth stories are in it too).
DD says I'm done on the computer....

Another Yoga-mama-teacher here! HI dharmama
I want to say that All of the Gaim videos are really great and as far as safety goes: one must listen closely to their body- A key goal of yoga: inner listening. If you havent done anything for exercise in a while than be careful and go slow, which means paying more attention to what's happening in your body than the video, since you can always catch up or skip something. Keeping the remote nearby to pause is helpful.
Yoga is the safest thing though for pregnancy and probably the best since it allows you to really become centered, grounded, focused and relaxed. All these skills that are super to have for labor and mama-hood!
*Concentrate wholly on the breathing so to facilitate all the necesary oxygen to the body, another key point (some yogi's would say THE KEY point) of yoga**
Enjoy your pregnancy and your Yoga!!!

I've done a few asanas since I found out I was pregnant, but nothing full-scale. I'd been doing pre-conception yoga but since we moved in July I just haven't found the time...
I'm hoping to find a prenatal yoga class here, tho. I think it'll be good to meet other new mamas to be, and maybe they'll be a little more crunchy than your average Mobile mama... tho given how my dh's cousin is (she's a serious yogi, but only physically, she's very materialistic and says she doesn't "get" the spiritual side of yoga) maybe that's not too realistic. we'll see
BTW, I'm also a (professional) bellydancer. I stopped teaching in May on the advice of my acupuncturist, who thought it would help with TTC. I think she's right. Even tho dance is safe for preconception and pregnancy, I think for *my body* I needed to stop dancing. I'm thinking I might be able to ease back into practicing on my own, just taking it easy, but I'll continue listening to my body about that.
Oh, and I
Bountiful, Beautiful, Blissful. I bought it last winter, and I fell in love with Gurmurhk. She's got a very strange high pitched voice, tho, so I'm not sure if I'll like her video, tho I might try it...

I just came back from my prenatal yoga class. I almost cried in the middle. I was so overcome by how much I have been needing this space and time for myself. I am thankful this little baby came along and I gave myself permission to go.
I had some really vivid memories of my labor with my last DD and the breath. It took me away.
I am so glad I have this resource available to me. And so glad I had it after this crazy day

I'm still loving my AM/PM yoga dvd - nothing really strenuous at all, so I feel comfortable continuing with it for now. Also have a prenatal yoga dvd waiting in the wings. Haven't tried it yet (don't want to jinx myself w/ my precarious testing situation) but will once I'm sure-er.
