ER doctor said to me "Immunizations can kill, we know that"

I had to take dd to the ER today, I was worried that she'd gotten dehydrated as shes stopped eating and drinking since yesterday. I've had to spoon fluids into her. Anyways he noticed that on the chart that dd is not immunized and asked why. We started to have a conversation, a very good one I must say, and he ended up making that statement. He also said that the DPaT(whooping cough) is the least effective of the bunch as well as the MMR. He said both sides of the coin needed to weight the risks/benefits. He told a few "horror" stories of his time over in the Philipines(sp?) and a 9yr old dying of tetnus. He said I had to live with my decision if some day something happens and then said he had to live with his, and thats when he made that statement.

That's interesting usually ER doctors are so indigant that you MUST be vaccinated no matter how many condtradictions to the shots that you must have. It's also good that he admitted that there really are two sides to this coin. Some doctors aren't willing to even admit that vaccines sometimes hurt children except for in those "rare instances".

It's about time that the medical establishment begins to respect the rights of parents to reasonably question whether or not a medical procedure would or would not benefit their child- especially after parents take the time to carefully research the subject and educate themselves accordingly.

Regardless of their degree of respect, the majority of doctors believe children harmed by immunizations are merely sacrifices for the greater good.

I had an ER doc tell me that my ds2 after falling on a rusty rebar piece that lacerated his soft and hard palate didn't need a tetanus shot. I went to my FP the next day and he too said I didn't need to put the little guy through immunizations after that fall right way, no rush. Furthermore the ER doc wasn't prepared to do so, they do not carry pediatric vaccines.

Sometimes you get lucky and find 1 doc who isn't going to badger and who knows both sides. My friend wasn't so lucky at the same ER I went to w my ds2.

That suprises me. MIL told me a story when she took BIL (now 16 but was kid at the time) to the ER for some reason. When the ER doc found out he was not up to date on his immunuzations (she picks a chooses ones, but mostly skips then all together) and he called CPS on her!
