FP refused to sign FMLA leave papers

I am so mad. I was assured by my place of employment that I just needed a positive pregnancy test verified to get leave. So I took the papers to the FP where I had the test done and they refused to sign it! They finally after some arguing put their stamp on the paper with the nurses signature but they should have just signed it. I only had the test done 7 weeks ago and I'm 28 weeks along now so I'm obvioulsy pregnant!

Were they on some sort of control trip? How rediculous. And stupid - arguing with a pregnant woman is not a great thing to do! =)

were they thinking that you wanted to start your leave NOW or did they understand it was for after the birth?

Thanks for the replies. In all honesty I think it was because hey hadn't seen me since July 12 (FP's don't have ob priveledges here) and I guess they thought there was a slight possibility i could have miscarried or something since I just dropped the papers off to be signed. However if they wanted an appointment they should have told me when I dropped the papers off. I'm hoping they'll take the stamp!

I didn't need to show any proof to get FMLA leave. Only my own signature on the form, as far as I remember.... :

You do NOT need proof of pregnancy for FMLA leave. You can take FMLA leave if you are adopting, if you have a sick relative, or if you are sick. No proof is required. You just have to have been at your place of employment for more than a year.

Well they gave me these papers to have filled out and when I messed them up I went to the department of labor's website and printed out more of the exact same ones. I wondered how it would work if I were adopting. Either way they say I have to have them or they won't grant me the leave.
