My New Puppy and the search for a vasectomy!

Ok.. so no real place to post this.. but....

I'm getting a puppy!!!

so i spent all day on the phone looking for a vet in my area to give him a vasectomy as i have a 19 mo female now. no one knows how! So i called Univ. of Florida in Gainsville 5 hours N of me... they will do it.. but whereas neutering is done by med students for $100 on a specific day each week... i will have to schedule a regular surgery... which will prolly be $600.. even though with a neutering trhey remove everything... and a vasectomy is just a snip snip. plus i have to give him a rabies shot.. but they will work with me on researching whther or not i can usset the cat vaccines which have less toxins in them. and they will prolly quarantine him for me so i don't have to subject him to other shots. All this to preserve his testicles! lol. i couldn't believe all the vets i spoke with couldn't see what was wrong with taking away an animals hormones when they were still puppies.. it was awful...

Anyone else have this trouble? or possibly know of a closer less expensive vet i could use in florida?

why don't you want him neutered?

because it would remove his testicles and hormones.. which isn't really healthy... they lose muscle mass and everything that makes them who they are. It is like if you did it to a human... or did a hysterectomy on a 20 year old woman... they would be forced into menopause. i'm not doing that to my dog...

i never thought of it that way. i had read that spaying reduces cancer incidences in females, and that was a plus to me. i hadn't heard about losing muscle mass.
i think it's great that you are willing to go to the expense and extra effort to get your pup a vasectomy instead of neutering.
i cried when i took my kitten in to get neutered and the woman asked in a loud voice, "so just the castration today?"

How awful! I don't wanna alter him at all, but with his breed and my dogs breed i can't have pups. They would be so hard to ensure they went to good homes and lived without fighting. There are many side effects to neutering and spaying. It does lower the risks of cancers but that is becuase in aneutering they castrate them and in females remove the ovaries, and uterus. This forces them to live without their hormones. But it is so unheard of and hard to locate.. that vasectomies and tubal ligations almost are not options. This is going to take a huge chucnk of my tax return.

What a wonderful person you are to be willing to get just a vasectomy for your puppy!
