Talk to me about mops.

I've been using (cringe) Swiffer WetJet on our wood floors. I know, I know. Help me switch! I always hated the sponge mops. Is there some kind that I could use with Murphy's Oil and then throw in the washing machine?
thanks,

Why don't you just use a towel or a prefold and attach it to your swiffer? I have good luck with that, as long as I don't poke too much fabric in the little grabby holes.

I second the towel or prefold bit. That's what we do. I have a bunch of microfiber towels that are labeled for cleaning, some are for diapering. When I need to mop I just grab a towel and hook it up.

Forgot to mention you can refill the swiffer bottle my dh refilled ours last week. Granted the clorox mop is easier to refill but you can do it.

Are your floors real wood or laminate? If they're real wood, you should not be putting water on them as it will damage the wood over time. You can use a damp cloth but never anything more wet than that.

I just use a hand-towel wet with water, squeezed out, then draped over my old sponge mop. I mop, then turn the towel over, mop again, then throw the towel in the washing machine. It works SOOOOO much better than the sponge itself, and I just use that as a base for the towel.

Damp cloth (bar-rags bought in bulk, use as paper towels, too) on a swiffer. Or dry cloth on a swiffer. Works great!

I have a Hoover Floormate. I like it. Some people don't. I think it's great on wood floors, but it's crap on tile.

I got the idea from someone here on MDC to clean the floor using a damp rag/towel/diaper and moving it around on the floor with your foot. I'm a sucker for simplicity . I have all wood floors and the towel-on-the-foot method works great. I will never go back to a mop of any kind ever, ever again.

Incidentally, I just use water (that's what the guy who installed our wood floors recommended).

My idea! Works great for me.

I used to use a sponge mop type mop, then a swiffer type, but now I'm very happy with a Libman wonder mop that i picked up at food lion for $10.00. i love it ... its machine washable! http://www.libman.com/index.aspx?src=PDI&ct=2&pid=114

I also like to "mop" the floor with towels under my feet. It makes cleaning the tile floor so much easier...I can use my toes to get in the gout lines. I use a regular damp terry cloth rag under each foot to scrub the floor and then a dry microfiber towel under each foot to dry the floor...it works great! I like to put some music on and do a floor cleaning dance...I know I'm a dork. But that way I clean my floor, exercise, have fun and entertain Baz all at once!! :LOL
For my hardwood I use a Swiffer-type thing with a microfiber towel on it...spray the floors with Murphey's Oil Soap or diluted vinegar and wipe it up. Works like a charm!

I have this mop from ecolovables.

http://ilovemymop.com/

Have had it for a few years now and you just throw the mircofiber clothes in the washing machine. My only gripe is the handle didn't hold up well and telescopes but won't stay adjusted to any length.

I use it for my kitchen and hardwoods- works as a dust mop or wet mop- it needs no soap.

Thank you! Thank you! I'll be using a CPF and a spray bottle with Murphy's after my current supply runs out.

I like the vileda mops and buckets. I am from Europe and this is what I used there as well.

www.vileda.com

I like the plain mop without the wringer thingie - their buckets have a built in whole to squeeze the mop through. I like the pro mop and the bucket they carry. The mop is made of microfiber so it absorbs and dries quickly.
