my Oil Cleansing Method Woe

If anyone could help me with my OCM problem, that would be so great! I've been using the OCM for about a month now, and I LOVE it!!! My skin looks and feels great. For the record I'm using grapeseed oil with a tiny bit of Vit E oil, as this is all I had on hand at the time I read about it, and since its working so well, I've decided to stick with it.

Now for the problem: my cloths stink!!! I usually use the same cloth 3times or so before tossing it in the hamper, and after they've been washed and dryed (I make my own laundry soap, so I suppose that could be the problem, but we use liquid AND sheet fabric softner in Vanilla fragrance) they still stink!! Anyone else have this problem? or possibly a solution? I don't want to give this cleansing method up, but I don't want to ruin my towels either!! Mel

I am not sure why they stink....you could try to see if washing them in something else makes a difference....what do they smell like? Have you tried adding some baking soda or vinegar at some point in the wash?

I would rec. that you toss your washcloth in the hamper after every wash instead of every 3. It will limit bacterial growth and reexposure.

Good luck.

It may be the oil on the washcloth is not completely being washed out, and is becoming rancid. Grapeseed oil doesn't have a very long shelf life in the first place, it goes rancid relatively quickly, and exposure to heat breaks it down even faster. If you can, wash them in a stronger cleanser with more degreasing power. Baking soda might be good since it is an alkali, and when you expose a fat to an alkali, it creates soap. It might be worth trying a strong baking soda wash in hot water.

ITA. I use each cloth only once before washing and don't have any problems with them. I would also advise you to hang them to dry before tossing into the hamper, just so mildew doesn't have a chance to set in.

I was going to suggest washing the cloth out with some soap/detergent when it starts to smell and just using a clean cloth each time. I love grapeseed oil. It's slightly astringent and perfect for oily skin. Doesn't leave it greasy, just clean and soft. And it smells pretty pungent when rancid, rather than having practically no smell when fresh. It doesn't last very long once opened in my experience.

thanks ladies, I think its about time to round up all my towels and face cloths and give them a good wash with baking soda and vinegar in the rinse anyways, so I will do that. The odour is grapeseed oil, I'm not sure how to explain it, just grapeseed oil smell. Thanks, Mel
