Where are the hives coming from???

My 5 month old ds started getting hives a few days ago. First it was just one or two, now he gets them frequently throughout the day.. They go away within 20-30 minutes, don't seem to bother him, and are all different shapes and sizes. I cannot for the life of me figure out what is causing them. His dr (who I spoke with on the phone) thinks it is some sort of contact thing; I thought so too but am not sure anymore. Anyone have experience with this? I do not eat dairy b/c of an apparent sensitivity he had to it early on; although my lactation consultant said I could try it once a month and just about a week before these hives I had some, and then about a week and a half later a little more...am I the cause of this?? We haven't introduced solids yet, either. Oh, and he's teething. I wondered if it could be related to that. ANyway, I have lots of allergies (i was not bf) and my mom says they look just like the hives I got when I was little and around dogs (no, he hasn't been around dogs or any animal).
thanks for any advice!

I don't know what to tell you. We are having the same problem with dd. She is nearly 4. I can totally relate in not knowing what is causing it. We thought it might be a certain food, but that isn't making sense now. We thought it was mold in the air, but that isn't looking like it's the cause either. We thought it might have been whatever they cleaned the sofa with, so we covered the entire thing up with a blanket. That seemed to work, for awhile, now that doesn't seem to be it either. Dd is currently itching in the living room. She is wheat free and dairy free. This last bout of on and off again started last weekend while we were away in Maine. I am totally clueless now. I have no idea what to do. Hopefully someone will have an idea.

Where are the hives?

I have been digging into this a little more and I have been finding that candida could be the issue here. I was shocked to read how many of the symptoms describe me as well.

THe hives are anywhere exposed, it seems...unless I'm just missing them on his trunk when he's dressed. His head, face, arms, and legs seem to get the most. Often around his ankles and wrists.

I wondered about yeast myself, as when this started it seemed I had a bit of a yeast infection...I wondered whether this could be transferred to him through the milk? Mine seems to be getting better; will watch to see if the hives improve.
