My s-i-l needs advice on dental f=work for her daughter ,(8). She has some cavities that need to be filled and I think 2 teeth that may need to be extracted. She is a very sensitive child, and screams and kicks and has to be held down for teeth cleanings. She is also supper sensitive to tylenol/ codeine, --becomes super wild and uncontrollable for days after exposure.
The dentist thinks he can do the dental work without the total anesthesia. He wants to do the nitrous oxide, a shot and sleepy juice (which I think has codeine in it.) Sil doesn't think this would work at all and doesn't want the risk of having a traumatic experience for the child and doesn't want to have to deal with the behavior trouble afterwards. The dentist said they could give the child valium because it works for everyone, and says that general anesthesia at the hospital would only be an option if the laughing gas doesn't work.
Does anyone have any advice or experience to share? What should she ask for?
Thanks in advance.
