need new mattress cover. recommendations?

i have a waterproof mattress pad on my bed that makes my daughter sweat buckets. it doesn't seem to be a problem for me or dh because we are sleeping on pillows but dd always wakes up with a wet head. yuck!

so what kind of mattress cover or pad should i use? are there wool ones that work well enough for babies? are they hot? the dust barrier mattress covers, i would think, would just make dd sweaty again because they are also plastic.

tia!

There was a thread about this not too long ago. I lot of people said they just buy cheap wool blankets from army supply or thrift, felt them up and put it under the fitted sheet to hold it place. I'm planning on trying this too. It sounds so much better than the waterproof covers. HTH.

thanks! i searched and found that thread. someone said, though, that the navy surplus blankets are too processed to be lanolized. i guess they still work for some people though??

i saw someone mention a 'sleepy sheep' pad of some sort. i googled for that but i can't find it. what is it?

On our bed we have a wool fleece mattress pad that is absolute heaven to sleep on. Not hot at all (no kids in our bed anymore, but it's washable anyway). The kids have old wool blankets (army surplus type) under the sheet with a waterproof mattress pad over the mattress, and they don't wake up sweaty.

We got our mattress pad from here though we don't have allergies www.gaiam.com has them too I think.

That's what I do. I started when my daughter was a newborn: it was great for those leaky early nursing days. My mattress still looks brand new after almost 2 years of nursing, diaper mishaps and spilled drinks.
I bought two blankets, 100% wool, already felted (we're talking ANCIENT :LOL ) and I use them both under a fitted sheet. Two might be overkill, but I didn't want to take any chances. We're nice and cool all summer long, and just plain comfy during winter. No sweaty heads here!
I've seen new wool pads somewhere, but can't remember the site name (sorry).
