well, do you remember the episode of the Brady Bunch where Greg becomes a rocker?

He totally looked like Neil Diamond.

Does it count if you don't care for the style of his music (singing, production etc.) but you think he's a very good song writer?

I do have a soft spot for Sweet Caroline I have to admit.

ND's music makes me think of when I was little: riding in the car with my mother on the way to the doctor (who was like a fat version of Neil with a stethoscope). His music is so intertwined with childhood memories that I can't even figure out if I like it or not. I know that Mom did, but Dad didn't.

I thought I'd seen every episode of the Brady Bunch multiple times, but I can't remember an episode with Greg as a rocker!

ok - here's a question. let's see if i can phrase this in a family friendly manner. in "sweet caroline," i had never heard of the um, alternative words for the "bah bah bah" part until i moved to pennsylvania. is that a regional thing, or did i just not get out enough before that?

on a barry manilow tanget, i realized in the car the other day that i was *blasting* (no kids in the car) "this one's for you" - yeah, i'm cool.

but i did know all the words to copacabana when i was about 2 1/2.

there are alternative words to sweet caroline? How do I not know that?

Greg Brady turned into "Johnny Bravo" for a short time...wearing a glittery bullfighter's coat, so I can see how Neil Diamond comes to mind when thinking of that Brady episode.

This thread has inspired ne to reserve The Jazz Singer from our library. I love that movie. My dd will watch with me and I will get choked up at the end like I always do and will also be interested to see if dd is as mortified by the love scene as I always am. Neil with no shirt in front of the fire with plenty of body hair.

no thanks.

but he still rocks!!!

Oh, I don't even need to categorize him as rock-the cheeseball genre is fine with me.

Don't love him, don't hate him either.

My addition to the conversation:

Did anyone see the movie Saving Silverman?
It's an odd film, with good moments.
But if you're a Diamond fan, you should see it.
love this movie -

Neil's awesome.

There's even a band that imitates him and does tours. It's called SuperDiamond. The lead singer is Surreal Neil. I highly recommend attending one of their gigs.

I remember listening to "Shiloh" when I was 11 and thinking that was the coolest song. I also had a crush on Barry Manilow at the time (this was the late 70s).

Dh and I see him whenever he's in concert locally. In fact, we just saw him in concert in August...and there was practically a brawl in the 2 rows in front of us! A bunch of really intoxicated fans in their 50s would not stop talking during the Jonathan Livingston Seagull ballad (don't know the name of it). They were pretty obnoxious during the other ballads too. The folks in front of them asked them to be quiet. Well, the boisterous fans almost had a fistfight with the people who asked them to be quiet. It wsa too bad because it was pretty tense for awhile.

DH and I were like, We've seen Bruce Springsteen and J. Geils, druggies at Stevie Nicks, sat in the bleachers at Fenway Park, and we have never had a problem with wacko fans...but we go to a Neil Diamond concert with a bunch of other squares...and sit behind the only troublemakers in the concert center?!?
