Harry Potter Books

So have any of you seen the movies first and THEN read the books? I've been hearing everywhere that I need to read the books because they're so fantastic. I am a total book lover ... usually readin 3 or 4 books at a time so I'm not sure why I didn't read any of them before seeing the flicks.

I'm wondering if I'm the only doofus that did this and if the rumors are true that it will be much worth my time to go ahead and read them anyway. I'm realy thinking I should at least read The Half Blood Prince since it's not out yet in theater... but I feel like I should start from the top. What do you think?

BTW... I loooooooved the movies. So much so that I watched the 1st one and then the other two in the same day!

The books are totally worth reading. There's tons of stuff in the books that weren't mentioned in the movies. If you're a fan, it's worth reading them.

: The movies do a decent job sticking to the books (well as decent as Hollywood can manage), but there is SO much more to the books. Read em', you won't be disappointed!

Read the books! There is sooooo much more happening than the movies have time to cover and they are such pure pleasure to read! But do start with the first and go through that way, you'll miss out on a lot if you just pick up at the fourth book.

I'm so jealous! My dh always tells me I should have myself hypnotized to forget all about the books so I can start at the beginning and do it all over again for the first time.

I read the books years ago, then saw the movies. Awhile back I decided I needed to reread before I read the new one (so I am still the only person who hasn't yet read the new one that is on my shelf). I started on book one and I forgot so much of what was in the books, there are lots of little stories and cute things that aren't in the movies. I would really reccomend reading the books

The cool thing about seeing the movies first is that you can enjoy the movies, and then when you read the books, you can enjoy the books. I often have a hard time enjoying the movie when I've read the book first- I know what's missing!!

That said, I don't know how you can stand to wait around for the 4th movie when there are 6 books to devour!!

I know! I AM dying knowing there's all those books but I totally agree about seeing the movies 1st w/out reading the books. It does seem easier to enjoy the movies without knowing what's missing... but then again reading the books is so exciting when you don't know anything too! Such a toss up. I'm looking forward to seeing The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe too so I just read the book again, same concept I guess. However I think I'll stick to watching HP movies 1st an I'm gonna get started on the 1st book. HBP will be out soon and I'm sure I won't finish all the books in time to read that one before hand anyway.

Are they making movies out of every book?

I'm excited to get started on #1 Thanks for all your advice

Half Blood Prince came out in July.

And I can't fathom that they wouldn't capitalize on the popularity and make a film out of every book. The 4th film is due to be released this November, and they are currently filming the 5th. Since the 6th book just came out, I don't think there are any details on its film yet, but rest assured that there will definitely be one!

You'll love the books way more than the movies - JKR writes with little details that are amusing and informative, and there's so much to catch that even after several readings people find themselves catching details that they had missed before. She's an excellent story-teller.

I was refering to the movie coming out in November

I'm going to pick up the 1st book this week and get started... I'll probably end up just checking out the rest of the movies as they come out and then read the books since I'm on a role that way I'm excited though like I've never even seen the movies...

Ah, well, in that case I'm afraid we'll have to wait a while for the HBP movie. This movie is just Goblet of Fire. Order of the Phoenix is scheduled for release sometime in 2007, I think. I wouldn't be surprised if it's 2009 for HBP, but maybe they'll work quickly and get it out in 2008.

I read the books first, then the movies. Very different to me, esp. the 3rd movie. But, when it really struck me is when ds wanted me to read them to him. I got the books on tape (he is almost 6) and man I was like-hey!!1

Anyways, I think the movies are magical, just like the books. I put them in different catagories and it helps

JKR has estimated 2007 for the last book, so it's not toooo bad. A lot of people were speculating 3 years, so at least it's better than that.

Sorcerer's Stone (Philosopher's Stone in UK/Canada)
Chamber of Secrets
Prisoner of Azkaban
Goblet of Fire (movie coming out this fall)
Order of the Phoenix (movie coming out in 2007)
Half Blood Prince (book came out in July)
