How do you cover gray hair?

Hi,
I am very dark haired - so my gray shows up remarkably. I am only 25, so I use semi-perm dye (natural instincts brand). I would really like to not use chemicals and I am afraid of henna (the notion that it will not come out if I don't like it and also it can change texture of hair). Has anyone had good results with henna or do you know of any other products?

The best hair dye that I know of is called Robert Craig. I've never used it but have heard good reports about it at www.forumslonghaircommunity.com/
I personally use henna and love it. If you use body art quality henna from www.hennaforhair.com you shouldn't have any problems.

Henna is wonderful!

I also have very dark hair, but no grey. A mixture of half henna/half indigo results in a beautiful dark brown. The changes in texture you've heard of most likely came from using lesser quality henna products with additives. Pure henna is very conditioning. The only drawback I can think of is that doing henna can be messy and time consuming. But I'm allergic to chemical hair color (my scalp breaks out in raised welts after coloring), so I'm happy to have this option. I only use body art quality henna and I love the results!

I also recommend www.hennaforhair.com . It's a wealth of info. They have a section on coloring gray hair. The site tells you how to harvest your hair to do a color/reaction test first. But since your hair is dark, henna will not really change the color much, only enhance.

Definitely worth considering!

I love henna!! The site that Prariechild and Katrina mentioned (hennaforhair) is great...so much information. It is a little time consuming and messy, but I think the results are worth it.

How do I cover my grey hair? With a hat! :LOL

I have fond memories of my great gramma wearing her gray hair in a braid, adn I thought it was the prettiest hair I'd ever seen in my life. Still do. Can't wait until my hair has as much grey as dark brown...

Thanks for the info, my sister is a stylist, so maybe she will do the henna for me?? I tried a powdered concoction once and it turned into a goopy disaster. I wish I could just go gray, but I feel like at 25 it just looks strange.

do you have a lot of gray hair? I started getting white hairs when I was 15. I still yank them !! LOL.

Oh yeah, and since I started adding in some blonde highlighting, they're barely noticeable anymore.
