What are the "must reads" on Environmentalism? - Page 3

I loved Fast Food Nation

There's a recently opened Green Living Tribe, if anyone would like to join. It's a bunch of earth lovin' mamas sharing ideas on how to reduce, reuse, recycle.

We'd love for any and all to join.

Okay, I just finished taking a conservation class and have a decent list for you. (Got an A!)

Two that I've already seen mentioned are a "A Diet for a Small Planet" and "Natural Capitalism." Of the two, I enjoyed "Natural Capitalism" more, but "Diet" has some really good info in it as well.

Also, check out "Environment and Society: Human Perspectives on Environmental Issues."

In addition, these were the other titles that were on my reading list for the class:

"The Wild Muir"
"A Sand County Almanac" by Aldo Leopold
"Gaia: A new Look At Life On Earth" by James Lovelock
"Arctic Dreams" by Barry Lopez
"Silent Spring" (of course) by Rachel Carson
"An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore
"Rewilding America" can't remember the author right now, but good book!

Enjoy!

OK, I know this thread is older than dirt, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned any books by my favorite, Derrick Jensen. His book Language Older Than Words pushed me right over into hard core. And the way he weaves all the violence of the culture into the violence against ourselves and the earth and the animals without being sentimental or preachy is astonishing. Not for the weak at heart, but so worth the process.

I've yet to read his latest, but I'm really trying to figure out how to acquire it without money. Our library doesn't carry it.

The book that predates "An Inconvenient Truth" by over a decade ... he wrote it in the years 1989 through 1992, published before the 1992 election that made him Vice President ... is called "Earth in the Balance," by Al Gore.

A very important book, IMNSVHO.
