I'd been having trouble with BM's for a week, when I woke at 2:07 am feeling the need to go. I tried, but couldn't so I went back to bed. At 2:15 I felt the need to go again, so I went to the hall bathroom (where turning the light on won't disturb Chris) and tried again to no avail. I decided to wait a while and got online for a few minutes, but couldn't get comfortable so I moved to the sofa to watch tv. I finally realized when I had to breath through a contraction that I was having contractions and started timing them.

OH MY GOD I THINK MY WATER BROKE. I jump up and run to the bathroom where I look at my panty liner and notice it's meconium stained. Ok, call midwife, have a contraction while on the phone with her...she's on her way (45 minutes away). Call my doula..she's calling another friend, on their way (about an hour as well). Have a contraction while on the phone with her....grunting at the peek...ut oh. "I hope I'm not pushing already...gotta go, gotta wake up Chris"
"Chris, I'm in labor, my water broke" And I go back into the hall bathroom. He comes around asks if I want to sit down, "No" Do you want to lay down "hurts too much" ok, do you want me to set up your pool - I pass him the phone "midwife, cell phone" ANd he calls her.
I turn around and begin to fill up the tub. I need these contractions to slow down, or for the water to make them feel less intense. I get in, I hear "Are you pushing" I say "A little bit" (The midwife asked Chris) After a minute or two I give up and turn off the water, the sound is annoying the crap out of me. I'm on my hands and knees in about 3 or 4 inches of water.
I turn to face the other wall, Chris kneels beside me offering his arm to grab for contracions. The midwife is on the speaker phone. I hear her say not to hold back, that if the baby is coming this fast, she's ok. So with the next contraction I not only feel my uterus pushing her out more, but I decide to put a little force behind it. A moment later another and I feel her head and reach down to grab it. "Here's her head" I feel Chris' hands over mine and I let go. I push again, he tells the midwife "the head is out" followed by another push and "I have some cord" I push again and "I have the baby! She's here!" comes out of Chris' mouth. Wow, I turn around and see a sweet little baby with her arms out wide. I help unwrap the cord from her neck (Once and kinda tight, but plenty of slack now that she's out all the way)
Kate was born at 3:30 am. The midwife and my two doula's arrived at 4:30. Everyone looks healthy, my blood loss was fine, and I have 3 small tears, all of which would cause more trauma to stitch, so they were left alone. Kate is such a little nursling I think my milk is already in! (I hope LOL) The midwife will be back tomorrow around 10 to check us out one more time. Then we'll go visit her at 6 weeks.
I am so glad we were planning a homebirth. I don't think Chris and I would have known what to do in this situation. We had 'emergency' (read really fast) birth instructions taped up in the bedroom, and had them memorized.
Of course we are SO in love.
I hope to have some pictures soon. My parents are bringing over dinner tomorrow and will drop off 2 rolls of film (belly pictures and post birth pictures) and I will hopefully be able to share some after Wednesday.
