How to tell whether tile is vinyl or not?

We're moving (please see thread below - I also don't know what to do about the carpeting!) and the kitchen/dining room is covered in a soft, plastic-y tile. How do I know whether it's vinly/PVC?

Most likely yes. Go to a flooring store and have them show you some samples and you will see the difference. Look at the top and backsides of the samples, too. Some realtors will mistakenly call it linoleum, but that is because many people do not know the difference. I would replace it. Cork, Marmoleum (eco friendly linoleum), tile, wood, or even concrete are much better alternatives to vinyl.
