Lumi Sticks

Does anyone remember "Lumi Sticks?" This was something my friends and I did for hours when I was young. (in the 60's!!) It involved rythmically tapping and tossing and flipping these foot long hardwood sticks in time to a song that went like this: (this is what it sounded like phonetically ) "Muck a way, Ko tay Oh, Way, kubatana...." Do kids still play this?

DH thought I was NUTS when I first mentioned this to him! He's half Asian, though, and has vague recollections of something similar from Philipino relatives.

I would love to teach my own kids, but I can't remember enough about it. Guess it's time for some web research ... :

We used those in a college P.E. course!!! I loved it... I was a music major, and it was the only "athletic":LOL thing I could do! I'd love to hear what you find out about them. (And let me know if you don't find any helpful info online... I could check back with the college.)

I think so! Were they split into several long pieces above the handle? Loved them!
