Thank God for this website and the warnings I had about hospital personnel sabotaging breastfeeding efforts. I was armed with confidence and knowledge with which to insist upon what I needed. Just home from hospital and short on time. In general, I had a great experience and I am joyful and grateful. I am also lucky to live in a country with affordable domestic help. Really takes the pressure off and gives me time to relax into the role. Not that I get enough sleep! I tried to induce because it was the only way to have the father present. In the end I had a C-section--- the surgeon was quite good. All for less than $1000 U.S. dollars and with minimal discomfort. I want to post funny details later as I have time. The rough moments were when my milk came in and the first day dealing with that. Also rough was being chained to the bed by an IV and catheter and pad and incision when others were caring for my child and I felt incompetent. Which was when nurses emotionally bullied out of using a cup instead of a bottle- when I was too low to argue with them, although the info was instructed on my chart. Next time I will have more personnel and guts to stand up for what I know now to be true. Milk fortunately came in like crazy despite all!!! I was lucky that when I felt overwhelmed I was able to call in help. The baby's father was also wonderful during the hospital stay and I feel so much respect for him now.

Congratulations on the birth of your little one! It's great to hear that breastfeeding is getting off to a good start in spite of some nursing staff interference. And - Welcome to Mothering =)
