Dade Forest’s Birth Story
6:57 pm Sept 12, 2005
6 lbs 12 oz
20 ½ in long
Born Free at Home in the Water
Sunday night – woke up with cramps/contractions around 2:30am, able to go back to sleep after about an hour until ~8am when Estin (ds) woke up
Had irregular contractions throughout the morning, went to the post office to drop off and pick up packages – called midwifery around noon to let them know I was having contractions, started to keep better track of them
Contractions closer together 3-7 min apart but still manageable, could walk and talk through them and they lasted only 30-45 sec
Called Peggy - midwife around 4:30, told her contractions were closer, <5min apart, but short and manageable – she said she’s on her way to set up but thought I was still in early labor
She got here around 5:30, started setting up, started needing to breathe through contractions, she checked me and I was 100% thinned out and 6-7 cm dilated (definitely not early labor, lol!), told me if I want to get in the tub, I should do it now
Lacey and Allison (friends to entertain Estin) got to our house around 6 – Brian (dh) came upstairs to be with me in the tub, Jessica – 2nd midwife arrived around 6:20 – contractions getting intense, very painful, lasting 1-2 min in the tub, deep breathing got me through them but also made my hands and arms very tingly, almost numb! Brian sat behind me and supported me through contractions – I had no idea things were happening so fast, but all of a sudden I said I felt pressure during the contractions, Jessica checked me, head was about 2+ station and told me to go ahead and push if I want to – I pushed through 3 contractions and the head was out (ring of fire not as bad as I thought it would be) and rest of babe followed with the next contraction – so easy! Thinking back, I kept expecting/waiting for it to be more painful – I was waiting for the “I can’t do this” stage that i've read most women experience – so I was very surprised when she said i could push and baby came out so quickly. Placenta came out almost 45 minutes later and they put one stitch in me, said they didn’t really need to, but might as well try to make it perfect down there, lol!
Comparing this birth to Estin’s hospital/epidural birth are like night and day – I’m so happy we did it at home!
thanks for reading!
