I have a sweet story to share about my 13 month old nursling. (I’m sharing it here because it shows the bond between a momma and her nursling.)
I haven’t been feeling the greatest today. I’ve had an upset stomach and think I might have a touch of a stomach virus.
While I was nursing my ds, I was talking to him about how crackers were about the only thing my stomach could handle today, and I had been eating a few in front of him. After he nursed, we sat in the floor and read some books, which he really enjoyed.
Then I started feeling worse, so I laid down on the couch. I closed my eyes for just a second, and when I opened them, my sweet ds was standing beside the couch with a wheat cracker in his hand! He reached out and tried to give me a bite of the cracker, but it crumbled. He looked disappointed for a second.
Then he reached down, and one-by-one, fed me every piece of that cracker. When we were done, he smiled his sweet smile, and climbed up in my lap, and laid his head on my shoulder. Then he signed “more” to nurse, and fell asleep, safe in my arms.
I nearly wept because I could feel my nursling’s love.
Also, I was amazed at the depth of his understanding at only 13 months.
It reminded me yet again how very lucky I am. Being an attached parent and a breastfeeding momma, has opened up my world to so much goodness and light.
