Amniotic Fluid does bleach

I know I mentioned before our birthing instructor said to put a wet pad down on our beds in case of water breaking, but I wanted to just confirm she was right, it does bleach fabric!

Dd was vomiting amniotic fluid a bit during her first day. One time she was on my pillow and I didn't think anything of it, threw the case into the hamper. Sure enough, it came out of the wash with a bleach-like spot on it. So did the arm of one of her shirts she got sick on.

I thought I'd post this just in case any of you mamas-in-waiting hadn't taken any precautions. I'm really glad I rode on a chux pad to the birthing center.

I forgot to mention, that she had said it was because amniotic fluid (either *is* or contains) uric acid.

When my water broke I used towels and prefolds to soak it up and it didn't bleach any of them. Maybe depends on the time it takes to set in before washing.
